Hiya everyone, been lurking about this place for the last 3 days, trying to get caught up on all the information. Must say, I'm more confused now than I have ever been.

I purchased a Blu starter kit and have been analog free for 2 weeks. It's working ok for me, but after reading all the forums here, it seems that the old blu units with the atomizers and carts were crap. I like the cartomizer, I get good hits if I do the double hit thing and take long slow drags.

I used to smoke 2-3 packs a day but I admit most of those burned up in the ashtray. I would light one, take a couple hits, put in ashtray and forget about it. The great thing about my Blu is that I can do this without burning up my money the way I was before.

Anyway, I'm happy with my Blu but I've found some info about it in reasearching and reading both here and several other forums. Im sorry to say I can't directly link you to where I got this info because I dont remember but I wrote it down so I know I read it somewhere.

Someone asked in the new Blu thread what the mAh rating of the Blu was -- Blu batteries are the same as the Volcano batteries, L88B, and run 90 mAh. They need to be recharged every 20-30 minutes (according to one forum, I only recharge mine about every 2-4 hours, depending on how much I use it) I don't know if you can charge volcano batteries on a blu charger .. there is a polarity issue I keep reading about. Does anyone know if you can charge Volcano batteries on a Blu charger? I would ask in the Blu forum but I can't 'cuz I'm new.

Also .. while I llike my new Blu unit, my friend who quit the same time as me doesn't like it. He needs a better hit with more vapor. I'm looking into getting him a 510 starter kit, but the price varies so much from supplier to supplier, and I really need a good deal, because he's disabled and broke. If anyone finds a great deal on one, please, please, please let me know.

Anyway, glad to have found you but honestly, this forum is a little overwhelming to a newbie. TMI doesn't even begin to explain it. For every product one person loves, there's 20 that hate it and vice versa ... The only reason sense of togetherness is that everyone agrees the 510 is a good model ... so that's what I'm going to try to find for my friend.

TMI or not, thanks to everyone who made this forum possible and maintain it. I know the kind of work involved and I will surely click through your supplier banners to help support the site.

Peace, Love, and Vape!

Get your friend (and yourself for that matter because you too will get fed-up with the blu) an eGo or Riva 510 manual battery kit. It's a good beginner PV and much better than the blu and has a much better battery than the small 510. Instead of changing batteries every hour, you should get 5 or 6 hours on a charge. Liberty Flights has a 20% off button in the top left corner of their home page. You will also need to get some blank carts and some e-liquid. They sell the small 5ml bottles for trying different flavors. I would suggest starting out at 24mg nicotine strength:

So does the new carto Blu use the same batteries as the original?

510 standard batteries are 180mah. The much longer 510 mega batteries are 280mah.

BTW - I know the old Blu could use Joye 306 atty (standard I guess since LR would probably suck the battery empty pretty fast). LiteCigUSA.net sells them. I use sometimes std Joye 306 atty on my 510.

First - get manual batteries unless there is a real good reason they can't be used. Manual 510 batteries are sealed on the end - no chance of getting killed by a juice leak. They are also less work and give a more consistent hit.

LiteCigUSA.net is a hardware supplier I use a lot and and they have real Joye 510 and cheap shipping. Nice 2 battery 2 atomizer kit (I would not recommend getting any less that 2 atomizers). Their price on the cheap Dekang PG juice is OK and they have some US juice. They also have 510 cartomizers (I use the standard Boge soft-caps and I'm very pleased)

FreedomSmokeUSA also sells Joye 510 kits and they have white. I like the black. I don't know if those are the best prices on 510 but I do recommend getting a branded Joye 510 (the original manufacturer) because there are some not as good clones around.

I usually buy juice elsewhere - Backwoods Brew, FreedomSmokeUSA and others.

Strictlyejuice.com sell cheap blue foam precut for standard 510 carts (the carts you use with the atty) - when the white stuffing starts acting badly, replace with blue foam.

ALternately you could get an EGo (the fatter-battery version of 510 with a cowl that helps provide a bigger hit and enough battery charge (650mah+) to use harder-hitting LR attys etc)

Hi, cleolove! Welcome to ECF! There are plenty of people here who like Blu. I believe they even have their own thread here. I doubt that the Blu and Volcano chargers are interchangeable unless they have the same threads.

the mAh of a battery isn't a set in concrete time of how long it will last. It depends on what kind of attys or cartos are being used and how often they're being used. Some people might only get 30 minutes of use from those batteries because they're vaping a lot more than others.

You might want to check out Liberty-Flights for a great deal on the 510. They have a discount code that will give you 20% off your order. Just click on the discount code link at the top of their page.

Thanks for the replies .. but before I buy a 510 I need some further advice. The friend I am buying this for is blind. I need something that he can easily use AND charge. I know this is asking a lot but are there any mods that have sound or vibration instead of blinking lights out there? Are there any mod makers who might be willing to work with me to make something suitable that beeps or vibrates when it needs to be charged? As it is now, I told him to charge it for an hour if he's not getting good hits. .. Any suggestions on which model might be easiest for a blind person to use?

Thanks,
cleo

BTW another good supplier - excellent price on a Joye 510 kit WITH a PCC
https://www.cignot.com/product_p/kit-510-pcc.htm

But if your friend doesn't go out, a passthru and a passthru-capable AC to USB adapter (usually 2 amps) would work too for home use.

Oh - blind. I know of nothing for the blind. I think and Ego may be better - much longer charge.

You should post a new thread and ask about ecig for a blind friend in the title - that way anyone who knows will answer. Once you have 5 posts/replies and wait about an hour then you can also ask in the Modder's section.

A passthru and 2amp AC to USB adapter would always work at home unless the power goes out. An ego could be the backup. Main problem I think would be the carts and attys and putting juice in. There is a new tank model of Ego and that would be the longest lasting fill. I don't know if you can use the tank on the passthru?

I think his situation is even a better reason to get a better battery PV (manual of course) that will be less of a hassle. None of the better battery PV's have lights that blink to let you know when to change batteries. Just like all of us, you figure it out when the "throat hit" starts to diminish. On the charger (red/green lights) I don't know any way around that with stock chargers other than what you suggested.

Here's one idea: you could get him a good 5 volt (much better vape than even an eGo/Riva) Box Mod PV from Ken's Box Mods. The PV itself costs $37. You will have to get a charger and four batteries. But he might easily get 7 hours on a charge and have a much better vaping experience with a 5 volt PV over the small 3.7 volt PV's like the 510. The box mod comes with a 510 atty connector but with an adapter ($4) you can use any atty you want. I use the 801 atomizer because it is bigger and holds more liquid.

Ken makes these himself and is a really good guy and very helpful. If you email him, he may be able to come up with a way to put a sound option on the battery charger. Here is his web site:

Hmmm.... maybe something with a passthru, if he tends to be in one place. An Ego pt is a battery that can be used while it's charging, and unplugged for while on the go.

That's a good suggestion. Although most pass-thoughs are pretty flimsy and do break easily. If money wasn't an issue, I would suggest the variable volt Darwin which have internal batteries that are charged like you do a cell phone. Plus you can vape while you charge it. But it is pricy.

It might be difficult to find anything that makes a sound or vibration. I would say the ego is a good choice, due to long battery life. Your friend could just keep one charging, and use the other until it stops working, then just swap them out. They are good for 8-10 hours on average use time, so that would at least be helpful, compared to the 2 hours use you get from a 510. Also might want to go with pre-filled cartomizers, just thinking plug and play.

Thanks, I think a pt with a manual battery will work best for him ... I will definitely post about blind in title now that I have my 5 posts in and can post elsewhere. Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I will get him a reg 510 with PT for now and look into other options for on the go vaping.

Thanks!

I was thinking maybe an eGo kit with the 1000mah batts - the batts are sure to last any vaper all day long so he just needs to put it on the charger at bedtime.

Then maybe some cartomizers to start with -- or even the tank system would probably work too.

We did have a blind vaper on here using a 510 kit, I think the hardest part was not the batteries but the topping off that must constantly be done with the atomizer/cart method.

You might go to volcanoecigs.com and look at the inferno-T kit: he'd get the 1000mah battery and a 650mah passthrough on a tank kit (tanks: just fill with 1ml of e-liquid through a hole in the tank, pop the tank into the atomizer and vape)
The INFERNO (T) Kit

Probably a very blind-friendly option IMO.

Cleo, I'm not exactly a veteran at mod making, but I could probably build a boxmod that replaced the LED function with a vibrator motor, and maybe get it to indicate when the battery needed recharging. I'd just need to do some more research. I have a feeling it could be done with some off-the-shelf parts, just with some involved changes. Let me know if you'd like me to get started. Since this is a good cause, I'd do it for just the cost of the bits/pieces needed.

Hi cleo. To answer your questions:
Yes, you can use the blu and the volcano parts interchangably. They will also fit/work with the Riva/ego/tornado etc model. Just don't swap the smaller size battery CHARGERS with the biggers sizes. That's where you have polarlization issues.
Cignot has one of the best deals on the 510. Get the "no box" version to save the most money.
Also, the PIF subforum has a blind member. If you still need help with those questions, PM me and I'll send you to him.

HTH!
