I just wrote this review of sorts in another thread and wanted to post it here to let Halo know what I think of this remarkable offering...

Vendor: Halo
Liquid: Captain Jack 18mg
Thoughts: This juice has completely turned around my notions on E-liquid tobaccos. I don't know much in the way of articulating tobacco qualities of leaf, region, or form for that matter; so, I will try to express this liquid in more abstract terms and overall experience--Halo Captain Jack is a poem that I am trying to comprehend.

While I believe this is a lab juice, it tastes to my unseasoned palate to be well formulated. It is both smooth and bold; while being dry yet dense with flavor. The fragrance is very close to what I remember as a child being around pipe smoking elders, and seeing as how almost three quarters of our sense of taste is smell, this seems to be spot-on. While smell is of extreme importance to taste, I don't always taste e-liquid the way it smells (don't know why). Captain Jack, however, tastes exactly how it smells. Whatever flavorings Halo uses, it has a strong scent that is neither greater or less than the taste. It is seductive and well-balanced in its woodiness, spice, and earthiness; with a mature gruff of sweetness that sings softly amongst the other notes. While Captain Jack is indeed a complex offering from Halo; the best adjective I can use to describe it is "round"--its parts are complete from start to finish.

The vapor production is as good as any other with similar pg/vg ratios, and the throat hit is above average. The flavor and aroma linger for equal amounts of time--which is quite long. Great work Halo!

Nice review, Mr. Mann -- well said! Captain Jack is a tough one to nail down. It's probably my favorite of their tobacco flavors (I make that distinction because I can only describe Belgian Cocoa as "otherworldly"). To be honest, I'm a little perplexed by Halo's tobaccos. I find some of them to be a little on the floral side (particularly Torque and Captain Jack), but in the best possible way. I don't find them particularly convincing as tobaccos compared to some (haven't tried the new Turkish, though), but if I suspend my disbelief, I find them to be very enjoyable interpretations of tobacco, and very satisfying. They are completely unique, and I would perhaps describe them as "bright" and "clean."

I'm vaping Captain right now, and it's definitely got a nice aromatic pipe essence. I have been completely disappointed by most other juices that claim to be aromatics. I don't think Captain Jack hits the mark completely, but I find it to be one of the most satisfying. I get something else in there that's almost tea-like, like slightly sweetened black tea. Definitely complex and interesting, and it keeps me coming back to it. If I treat this as a "spin" on pipe tobacco or a reinterpretation, rather than something that tries to replicate it note for note, I think it's one of the better pipe flavors out there, and completely enjoyable.

Halo is one of the more interesting vendors, and they certainly have their own distinct signature. They seem to focus on capturing certain aspects of tobacco, rather than trying to replicate the entire experience. I believe that this is where their artistry lies. I really like your "poem" analogy (I liked it in the other thread too), because a poem (or any form of art) doesn't try to sum up or encompass all aspects of human experience -- it narrows our focus in order to heighten or emphasize certain aspects of human experience. I believe Picasso said something to the effect of "art is something that eliminates the unnecessary." I don't get anything thick and creamy or smokey that I would expect from an aromatic pipe, but I do get some of the finer notes at the upper end of the aromatic pipe scale with Captain Jack.

after i found prime15, i thoght i had found the holy grail of halo juices. of course it was only my 3rd halo tobacco sampling so it stands to reason that there could be other great ones. and after reading this, i have the feeling CJ could easily win me over. :)

Well, after our next exchange you can tell me...but, don't forget about the FREEDOM!

Capt. jack and midnight apple are the only 2 tabaccos i can vape any more. Use to love torque 56 and tribeca but now that Im a month since my last cig i just don't have a taste for them any more.

Capt. jack I can best describe as tasting like licking a swisher sweet. A tabacco leaf with a nice honey sweetness to it.

Midnight apple has a bit less tabacco taste with a kind of dry green apple taste to it.

I got a few 7ml bottles of the flavors from Halo I wanted to try yesterday. Longhorn and Freedom Juice where okay but I didn't really care for Tiki Juice. It wasn't bad, but just not for me. My cousin, who I'm trying to get into vapping, loved the Tiki Juice, though. She said it would be good for special occasions but not everyday.

Captain Jack, on the other hand, I fell in love with. I've got a couple of 30ml bottles on the way along with some bottles of Prime 15. Between Captain Jack and Prime 15, I'm all set with my tobacco flavour needs. (Well, not counting Tribeca. While still my favourite flavour, it doesn't taste like tobacco to me. I sort of count it as its own thing. Great, but not classifiable, in my opinion.)

I'm terrible at describing flavours, so I'll just say that Captain Jack gets a big thumbs up from me.

Halo Tribeca was my introduction to vaping. I love it still. I've since tried every one of their liquids. Altogether an impressive lot. Initially, I was somewhat perplexed to see some members comment on the chemical or perfume aspect that they tasted in several of these. I love Freedom Juice, Prime, every one of the menthols. However, Midnight Apple currently tops my Halo list. Turkish went from an unpleasant pure cardamom to --after weeks of steeping -- something closer to a Camel. I suspect I'll order more of it one day. But then came Captain Jack... Suddenly the chemical and perfume complaints made sense. With all respect to Halo and their fine products, this one seemed to epitomize what naysayers have in mind. It's also great to see that other people with much different tastes enjoy it. But for me, it remains among the all-time least favorable juices I've ever tried.

Well, I'm sorry to have to report that my feelings on Captain Jack have changed. I initially loved it. After a few days of vapping it as part of my all day rotation, I took a drag and was surprised by a strong sour taste.

At first, it reminded me of a sweet pipe tobacco but now it taste like one of those sour apple candies. Ah well, live and learn. I need to mull over flavours for a few days before I make a decision, I suppose. I got a few bottles of it in the mail, too. Luckally, I got them with the Forth of July discount.

I have read that the flavours can change after a few days, but none of my other flavours have. Just Captain Jack. So, yea. I'm still fairly new to vaping, so I know I'll make some mistakes and am fine with that.
On the plus side, while I didn't initially like Tiki Juice, its now a part of my rotation and I'm really loving it. :p

Thank you for being the one person in this thread that at least made the attempt to describe what this stuff actually tastes like. I'm contemplating ordering some halo juices but, aside from gushing vapid poems empty of any actual content, or saying it's just putrid, I'm not getting much information to help decide whether I want to buy some of this relatively expensive product. To be fair, this seems to be true of too many juice reviews in general, which is why I am so frustrated with them generally.

When I taste something, I know whether I like it or not, but what I like might not be what you like. By the same token, when I taste something, I can describe what it tastes like, no matter how "complex" the flavor. I'm not asking for a lab assay on what flavors come through, but come on juice reviewers, taste descriptions are not rocket science and we don't need Catalina wine mixer type descriptions that use a lot of words to say absolutely nothing.

If you feel I said "a lot of words to say absolutely nothing," my apologies for not saying that Halo Captain Jack smells and tastes like a pipe tobacco; it's bold and smooth; it's round in its spiciness, earthiness and woodiness; it has a lingering aroma (obviously of the pipe variety); it's has above average TH and a decent, par-for-the-course vapor production. Wait a minute, I did.

You write the way you do, and I will write the way I do. Just know that whatever you think is "truth" about any one juice will always differ from what someone else believes (almost always). I like to write from a creative stance considering that is how my mind works. It has to do with what I need, not anyone else.

Over a year ago, I didn't need or read a review about this juice before I bought it. I bought it because I was curious (I got the sampler). It's always best to buy based on your own intuition, as no description, even your sober take, will ever be representative of what everyone believes.

I taste a bold tobacco (that I like) with a lot of honey ( which I can't stand)...
This is one of those liquids that every time I vape I tell myself that I won't do it again but tend to go back and repeat the cycle

If you like honey it should be a great liquid
