Car Cigarette Flashlight - could this work with a different battery inside?

Assuming you would leave these plugged in all the time it would be on charge all the time, or on and off repeatedly every time you start and kill your engine.
( depending on how you socket is wired ) Probably already has one in it, li-ion is probably only battery that could handle that kind of abuse.

i've been staring at an old Dell laptop battery for a year
finally cracked it open, and found six 18650's, each reads 3.4 volts

VWFringe, please be careful using those.... Im sure you know that they are unprotected. I use this PCB for 3.7V Li-ion Battery to make them a lot safer.
I think it would make a very cute mod, if you put a safe battery in it. You could make one in every color of the rainbow.
