I've been trying a few different cart mods for my 801 and would like to know what works for others. I seems to be having wicking problems with the blue foam, works great for a couple of hits, then needs to sit for a few minutes before puffing again. Tried the highping mod but haven't gotten that right yet, but looks promising.

Would prefer to get the blue foam working correctly as that's what I use in my 510 and l88b e-cigs and would be nice to use the same thing across the board, but not real important if there's something better.

Pretty sure what I have are low-bridge as I also have a RN4072 (I think that's the correct number) and the bridges are physically the same height.

Hi Chuck. The 801/RN4072 (yes low bridge) was my first e-cig and I still use the penstyle daily, but now with 302 attys today (also low bridge). I tried the blue foam in it a long time ago, but it didn't work very well.

The best cart mod I've found for the penstyle (and all my other atty models) is the AquaClear aquarium foam. It also works in my 510 as well. It has a bit larger open cell size to it and seems to release the liquid a bit better. You can find it at PetSmart and PetCo.

I've not used the AquaClear foam before, so this may be a dumb question, but, do you cut it similar to the blue foam? What I've tried on the blue foam is a piece a little wider than the cart and twice as long as it is deep, folded in half and stuffed into the cart folded end to the inside of the cart. Would I do the AquaFoam the same / similar?

You'd cut it similar. A bit wider than the cart but the same depth (you want the foam to just slightly compress in one direction). As for the length... I cut long strips, use tweezers to grip the bottom of the foam and set it into the bottom of the cart (and hold the foam while removing the tweezers to make sure it doesn't pull up out of the bottom of the cartridge). Cut off flush to the top of the cartridge.

The smaller left over pieces are used for the next cartridge, or if too short, I use them for my 510.

If you find it isn't wicking well, suck the liquid back out of the cart with a dropper (press it down into the foam) and trim a smidgen off of one side. I've rinsed and reused pieces for months and months.

I got an 801 a couple of weeks ago and I use Highping's Simple Cart Mod. I had to fiddle with it a few times to get it just right and what I found works best is to cut a straw about 3/4 of the length of the cart and then place the little plug on top of the straw. I don't know why but his mod seems to work better with a straw on these big carts. I'm amazed at how long I can vape without refilling. These carts are huge! I think the straw helps to press the plug down on the atomizer and deliver more juice than the plug all by itself. I don't use a straw with my 510 carts.

I have a highping mod that works fairly well now, but I think I'm going to try the straw idea. Also, next time I'm in SanAntonio I'm going to get some of the AquaFoam as I've heard a lot of people swear by it and I want to try it. Just a 90 mile trip to get there.

Thanks both of you for your responses. I'm really liking this 801. Really brings out the flavor on the watermelon juice I use. I think it's going to be perfect for long, slow vaping sessions once I get the wicking / cart fill issues worked out.

Another question along these same lines, does the 801 just by nature wick fairly slow compared to the 510? Adding the straw did help, but I still can't get a good puff on it more than once or twice then I need to let it sit for a few minutes.

I appreciate the advise I've gotten so far and I realize that there's a learning curve with this one just like I had with the Volcano, Magma, Joye 510, and J108. I didn't get the 801 to replace any of my other PVs, but to add to them, I'm happy with all of them that I have as they all have their strengths and weaknesses and work very well as long as you keep that in mind. I just want to make sure I'm going the correct direction and that my expectations are somewhere close to reality.
