Carto Tank flooding

Hi all,

Quick question for you guys. After using strictly pro tanks and clearomizers I made a switch to carto tanks; a mistake it seems.
After the first refill my carto with or without the tank on would flood up into my mouth no matter how hard I pulled. I wasted about 3 ml dumping the e juice out of the tank and blowing out the carto until, from what I could see, there was no more liquid in the poly fill. After this I refilled into the poly and let it all soak up but when I would take a drag it would just come up and flood the little hole in the center of the carto causing it to produce no vapor and extreme leaking in my mouth. Is there any fix to this? I don't really know what else to do I just picked this smok tank yesterday.. Seems like a waste at this point.

Any help would be awesome!

Thank you!!

You already know what to do. You've done it. Just not in the right order. After filling the carto(already in the tank) fill the tank and put top back on. The with tissue in hand(at the connections side) blow all excess juice out. May have to repeat a couple of times. While you are vaping you should see bubbles coming from the hole in the carto(showing that the carto is filling up again.) Should not have to keep blowing it out. When you refill the tank there is no need to put any more juice in the carto as it is already primed and ready to go. You may want to blow out any excess after every fill of tank, just to be sure.
Hope this helps.

That carto sounds like it is too flooded to recover. Ditch it.

I suggest reading this tutorial and then watching the first video, and then the PBusardo video also included. Then start all over. Follow the steps of my setup guide word for word and you should have a well-prepared cartotank and not have any issues.

Baditude's Cartotank Setup Guide

You mentioned, "After the first refill my carto with or without the tank on would flood up into my mouth no matter how hard I pulled". DON'T do that. Cartotanks require a gentle, long draw of 4 - 6 seconds long, not short or hard. Doing that WILL flood the carto, if it isn't already. Think of sucking on a straw in a thick milkshake. This is the proper technique.

Let us know how that works out for you. :)

Wouldn't blowing it with all the pieces attached just blow all of the juice in the device out eventually rather than the excess? In my experience with this the juice just continues to blow out.

No. Just blow to make sure the center air hole is open and free of juice. It needs that air hole open so that the vapor can be produced. When filling a carto(with no hole) and vaping it without a tank, you want the carto to look like a slushy. If you keep blowing out all of the liquid then there is nothing to vaporize.

Whenever I hear my wife hitting her cartotank so hard that she's making the carto gurgle, I have to remind her.

"There's a time and a place to pull that hard and a cartotank isn't one of them!"

*looks around* Yeah, she doesn't laugh either.

A rather noob kind of mistake which caused the same issue for me was when filling the carto tank I was closing off the air flow so much as to cause pressure issues when filling the tank (small hole for filler) which forced lower viscosity juices to push through the carto and flood it, once I realized what was going on (DOH moment) it was easy to make sure the tank wasn't being pressurized by my fill.

Not saying this is your problem, but something to be aware of. Don't give up on the carto/tanks, when they work they give some sweet vape...

^^I laugh.

How well you prime your cartomizer will determine its lifespan and functionality. It can be a delicate process to first time users. Get a syringe to help prevent you from filling liquid in the center hole. You can easily prime a carto without a syringe. It just takes more TLC to do it properly without one.

Edit: You have one of those smok tek tanks with the little fill hole in the cap? I personally don't see the point of having to have a fill hole in a carto tank. I mean, you have to have a syringe anyway to put liquid through the fill hole. It's already easy enough putting the tip of the syringe in the tank through the hole for the cartomizer.

I actually fill it with the top cap off, use the fill hole for venting when assembling, I'm just starting out so syringes, and other hardware are still to come, tomorrow I have a DIY package hitting the mail box from Wizlabs, which has some of those conveniences in it.

I really only use the smoketek tank because it locks the carto in place and prevent my noobness from dumping juice all over. Sept. 6 was my initiation into Vaping.
