Carto Tank help!

That is one of the reasons I have been moving away from carto tanks. How long one lasts will depend on how much you vape (obviously if you chain vape all day it will need replacing more often than it would if you are a light user), how much power you send through the carto (if you have a variable voltage/wattage device and set the volts/watts at a higher level), and the quality of the carto itself (people swear by boges, but I've also heard that they're not as good as they used to be).

I only get about a week out of a carto before I feel like it needs replacing, and I use it in a rotation with other tanks/atties, so its not even a full week of constant use. So, 5 or 6 days seems pretty normal to me.

How many mls have you put through it?

The warning signs your carto needs replacing include poor vapor production, reduced flavor, a burning flavor (kinda like burning hair) and a stiffer draw.

Based on your initial assessment... Sounds like it's time to replace it.

Personally, I usually get a week or so out of a carto... But that varies. Amount of juice vaped, pg/VG ratio, and even flavorings can affect the life of your cartomizer. Never run NETs through a carto! Near instant death!

Good luck!

I've been using cartotanks almost exclusively for over a year. Not all cartomizers are created equal. My preferred carto happens to be Ikenvape 510 Fusion or Platinums, but they can be difficult to find in stock. I use Smoktech single coil cartomizers as my backup. I tend to get longer use with the Ikenvape, and they have better flavor production. Never been a fan of Boge.

If you find the quality of the flavor of your juice degrading, or develop a stiff draw when you vape, its time to replace the carto. I typically switch between several tanks, so this prolongs the length of time they can be used, but I also get about 20 - 30 ml of juice through them.

Some people believe getting only 1 - 3 weeks use out of a carto is expensive, but I spent $5 - $6 a day on cigarettes when I smoked and thought nothing about the cost of those. Spending $2 on a carto that lasts the 1 - 3 weeks is a bargain.

I just started using a Kangar Pro tank yesterday. Worked well all day, but then started tasting burnt every other puff. I think I might a got too zealous with my new toy, and burnt the wick. I've got the coil head soaking in water right now. I put a new one in there, and It's working OK, but it still, seems like it's not wicking very quickly. Unfortunately, I can only use VG liquids. Is it practical to use the pro tank with pure VG? Would something different, like maybe a dual coil tank, work any better?

I don't use cartos much anymore, but when I do, I just replace them when they start dropping off in performance, which can be anywhere from DOA to 2 weeks. Which is why I don't use them much anymore. Too unpredictable. I was a victim of "Bogegate" and pretty much gave up on them. I'm just using up my remaining cartos as backups.

Well, a bit thinner would be better for the protank. 100% VG will wick slowly, thus the burnt taste. You can add a few drops of distilled water, or try using 100% cotton wicks. (easily made yourself from cheesecloth or flour sack towels. You can also buy cotton candlewick or oil lamp wick to get the material for your protank wicks. Just rinse whatever you use well in warm water before using it to make wicks unless it food safe, unbleached cheesecloth.)

I surprised that people give up on cartos based on the disappointment of a particular single brand. There are three distinct brands of cartomizers: Boge, Smoktech, and Ikenvape. All three have different characteristics that lend to different preferences.

I understand your point. But I was using Boges for about 9 months (I think) until carto after carto was a dud. Tried out Vivis, stardusts, then finally rbas, and they were just so much more consistent I pretty abandoned cartos. But I've lately been going through my old cartos, and when I get a good one they are nice. Using a mini-sub tank from Mom and Pops with a VV spinner is a great compact setup. Once I go through my old Boges, maybe I'll revisit cartos. I'll admit that they are nice and convenient...when they work.

I guess is all in what you get, I purchased a box of boge (5 cartos) and the first one lasted about 3 days of heavy vaping before it died, the second one which I still have in my provari and vaping heavily has last me almost a week and still going strong. IMO is a good trade off, I used to pay $14.00 for 2 packs of Parliaments light per day in 3 days I would have spent $42.00 so the bad carto lasted 3 days and I paid about $2.00 for the carto, WINNER!! I'm ahead of the game and my wallet made out like a bandit!! Since I tried cartos in my phiniac and IBtanked I havent touch anything else, use the protanks and vivi novas as back up now.

OK, I don't have an explanation for this, but when I started tilting it up when I vape, the protank is now fogging like a champ. It's on a tube mod that sits upright when not vaping. Seems counterintuitive me, cause the liquid goes in at the bottom, so it stays in contact with the fluid when it s sitting upright.

I use two cartos a week. But my juice kills wicks and filler (YMMV). I haven't had good luck with cleaning the cartos either. I've tried the MyFreedomSmokes plunger and couldn't bring them back to life, but excellent for filling (better than condom method imo). Bout it!

I was thinking about "taking the plunge" fro that plunger. Good info. Thanks for sharing.
