That piece is included inside of the carto only for shipping purposes, to keep anything from getting inside of the carto. Remove and toss.

You should have some type of drip tip to put in its place once the carto is pre-filled and assembled into a full tank. The drip tip serves as the mouth piece for the tank.

What is the purpose of the little round insert that comes with a carto/tank?

Should I be using it? Obviously it would go into the top of the carto. Which way do you insert it, since it has a flat side and a funnel side?

If you're talking about the white insert with a hole in it, then I believe it is there so you can use it without a drip tip. Even if that's not the purpose, you can still use it that way if you need to. Like tonight, when we lost a drop tip out and about, and I put the white insert back in. It may not be the most comfortable way to vape, but it works in a pinch. Normally you would take it out, fill it up, and put a tip on it though.

No, it's not the white mouthpiece cap that comes in the carto. It's a separate piece that was in the little baggie that the DCT carto/tank came in.

I found out what it is. It's a silicon bung/seal that is supposed to be inserted into the carto on top of the filler, under the drip tip, flat side up. Mixed info on what it's really supposed to do. Some say it's supposed to seal the juice into the carto so the filler doesn't dry out. Others say it stops the carto from gurgling. Another said it makes the draw less airy.

Just so you know what I'm talking about:
There is a video at this link that shows it. Around 3:40 mark in the video.

Here's another pic of the parts

Lol......they totally inserted that carto into the tank wrong. The way they are doing it is hell on your o-rings and will end up chewing through them pretty fast as the sharp edges of the stainless steel cartos cut into the soft rubber. This is what causes leaks.

Easiest way Ive found to do it is to take a drip tip shaped like the one in the pictures and insert it into the carto BEFORE inserting the carto into the tank. A small drop or two of juice rubbed around the o-ring and the drip tip also helps.

This is the part (from your second link) that it looks like the guy in the vid (from your your first link) is inserting:
E: Cartomizer Cap- This cap comes ONLY on the refill cartomizers. It needs to be removed before filling the cartomizer. It is not needed for use with the cartomizers. It is only for storage purposes.
(If it is)
That piece has come with every atty or carto I've ever purchased. Like this instruction in step "E", it gets tossed and replaced by a drip tip, I don't know what the guy in the vid is doing shoving it under the drip tip.

It's not that piece. It is part "K" he is inserting and what I was inquiring about.

K: Optional Ring Seal- Used to help prevent leaking into the Drip Tip.

I've seen 0-rings for drip tips before, but that is the first time I've ever seen this piece in a tank setup. No wonder no one knew what the heck you were talking about.

Yeah. Actually, one is supposed to come with every Smoktech DCT tank of this style. And, I'm not buying anyone's theory as to what it's really supposed to do. It makes no logical sense. Just to try it out, I placed one inside as directed with the flat side up. Did nothing but make the carto gurgly and I had to do repeated primer puffs after every couple of draws or so. I use VG only juice (thinned), so perhaps it may be of use to slow down wicking when using a PG juice. I don't know. I took the piece back out after fighting it for awhile and my tank/carto is back to working properly.
