cartomizer advice needed

Hi everyone

Sorry to sound a bit thick. lol

But i have just started vaping with a 3.5 cartomizer for the first time this week, after the enitial first fill to soak the carty how dry can you let it get before you need to soak again, as i think i am over doing it because i keep seeing leakage from the carto/battery connection.?


also this is a steel carto, can i boil to clean it once a week?
Finanly how long should a carto last, and what are the signs to tell me it is fading.

You want to keep your Carto wet at all times, if it's leaking out the battery end my guess is your letting juice go down the center tube. When your topping off try tilting the Carto and running the juice down the side. Then you can gently blow out the Carto into a tissue. It should be good to go. Just remember dry Carto leads to burning filler, harsh hits and decreased Carto life.

Some people do gently boil and dry the cartos. But IMHO with proper care your Carto can last up to a week depending on juice consumption and type. You will know when it's time to change when the flavor tastes off and the Carto isn't producing vapor or seems clogged. Personally I don't reuse them, I buy in bulk so a Carto only cost a dollar or less. It runs me about $5 bucks a month to use fresh cartos every week.

Hi Johny,

Cartomisers are meant to be disposable but can be refilled several times. They can last anything from just a couple of days to a couple of weeks or more. Depending on the type of carto, how much you vape & what juice you use. I find it's best to fill them initially using the condom method & then just top up by dripping into the wadding.

Some folks do clean them by boiling but as I buy the Boge cartos for less than £1 each, it's not worth it IMHO. The signs they are beginning to fail s they will become difficult to draw on & you will get very little vapour from them.

Some people do bother to try to clean the huge cartos. Not just boiling but also forcing water through then sometimes air to try to get out as much water as possible. Then drying is the big problem - you need to get it pretty dry inside before filling. Some have to bake cartos in a slow oven (like 175F) for hours. And when done, it's unlikely to work as well as a new one. Nothing you do will get rid of juice that's baked onto the coil, ruining the flavor and vapor production.

I use 1ml cartos and just do my best to keep them damp. I use a drip tip as a mouthpiece instead of the end cap so it's easy to remove to add juice. I try to prevent singeing and get as much use as I can out of it, then switch to a new one and toss the old one. My cartos cost me $2 for one kind and $1.50 for the Boge and I can get 7-10 days use out of each (2-3 weeks for me because I alternate vaping 2).

The last time I changed the carto in my carto tank, it was 2 1/2 weeks old. Cartos in tanks will last longer than just using the cartos alone.

+1 on tossing used cartos. Too much trouble to clean and reuse, and also variable results with cleaning. I buy bulk when I catch a good sale and so they cost me 1.25 each.
