Its best to try to avoid the center hole, but getting at least some juice in there is pretty much inevitable. A little leakage is normal from time to time and as long as you keep up with it by cleaning the top of your pv with a q tip or something similar it wont hurt the cartomizer or the unit
You'll be fine, beachroadbum! If that was the case, all those people using the condom method would be in a world of trouble! Just blow that naughty juice out of the air hole and you're good to go!
It primes the coil. And with the condom method, the coil is practically bathed in eliquid. Just blow gently through the carto when you're done to remove excess juice. And wipe the threads dry. This is of particular importance if you're using an auto battery, as juice can and will kill the switch.

I like to stick my carto's in my tank, cover the bottom holes up, and suck air through the drip tip to prime. This creates a vacuum which forces liquid through the filler hole in the body of the carto and into the filler from the bottom up. I've gotten mouthfulls of liquid like that a few times, but it's a hell of a lot better than dry burning the carto.
Since I've only dealt with flanged cartomizers, I wasn't able to use the condom method, but that's the way I'd do it if I had to prime an unflanged carto. Makes more sense to prime from the bottom up, to me, but in the end, all the filler material should be evenly moist.

Hopefully it's not already stated because everyone here already gave you the perfect answer! But when it's in the tank and if it happens to "flood" when you hear the gurgling sound, try 2 things:
1. Continue to vape and hopefully the juice in the center will simply evaporate as the vapor comes out.
2. Turn the tank upside down so the drip tip is facing down and the threading is up, wrap tissue around the threading, and somewhat blow into the drip tip until some juice pops out into the tissue. You'll see quite some juice will be absorbed into the tissue. Just make sure to clean whatever juice is around the threading before placing it back on your battery.

I was just practicing on my first flanged and the condom method works from the top fine.
I've done the opposite on the in-tank prime by blowing in to create pressure (lots of bubbles), and then blow thru until some juice comes out the screw hole.

haha, I've been lurkin around here for a week or so, started to hear about this 'condom' method, I dunno today or yesterday, and couldn't figure out why someone would unwrap a condom to somehow get the juice into the cartridge, I don't want to smoke the lubrication or the latex.
At least that cleared it up for me and off to the next topic I don't understand, so I think you guys are crazy based on my assumptions of what you all are doing.
this likely doesn't belong here, but I was looking into a cart+tank for an ego; is there special priming that has to be done for that, i.e. do you have to use one of these methods, condom, pull-out, rhythm (jokes), or does the tank feed the cartridge through capillary and you just let it do it's work for a while and then use. Could you just top it off like you'd refil a preloaded cartridge and the tank will fill the rest, etc? thanks
