Great forum, been viewing for a week or so and signed up yesterday. Seems like a great bunch of people.

Been vaping for around 3 months, got an eGO starter kit and so far it seems like a good system. Other than the battery life and one battery that stopped charging.

Anyhow, I'm not sure if I really understand when it's time to add juice to my cartomizer. It seems I have to fill it more often than what I've read here. I'm was a pretty heavy smoker so I'm hitting (2 drags per hit, 3 to 4 sec draws) probably around 12 - 15 times an hour. Not really sure how often I have to add juice but at this point I think it's around every hour or so.

Does this sound normal? It's a single coil cartomizer and the last time I counted I'm adding around 15 drops.

Thanks guys,

Craig

I don't count my drops. I do it like I used to do my old cartridges, and I fill it until it's "wet" on top, let it sit for a second or 2, if it's still wet, i'm good, if not, put some more in. With this not being very scientific, I do get some leaks occasionally, but no big deal to me. If you had a battery go out, you might wanna check and see if it's warrantied.

When I use the regular sized cartos (boge), I do seem to need to top off quite a bit. The dual coils are longer, and with them I don't need to top off as much. I haven't tried them yet, but I've read great things about the ego mega dual coils (hold something like 3ml of juice). I imagine that with those you could go a long time before needing to add juice.

How I fill and how I notice when to add more (see "As I am vaping"). Rarely I fail - a carto is vaping so nicely that I don't think it needs juice, then I stick a fresh KR808D-1 battery on it (4.2v fresh off the charger) take some nice warm drags and then taste the start of singe (sort of bitter and burnt taste). but most of the time I succeed in not singeing them. At the time when I notice it may need juice, it usually is about 1/3 to 1/2 empty and needs 8 to as many as 12 drops. As a carto gets older, they don't wick as well and I may add juice more often. But occasionally one tricks me. Sometimes I will catch those in time and it may need 20 drops eek. (my cartos are 1ml)

----
How I fill a cartomizer (Vapor4Life for KR8 or Boge 510 for 510 which are all soft-cap w/ no inner seals and defined central air channel)

I use thin (20% or less VG) liquid or Vapor4Life WOW liquids, preferably clear liquids w/ no sediment

Filling a blank carto - I pop off the soft cap (unbent paperclip carefully in the mouth hole, not catching any wires or stuffing!). I hold some tissue against the threaded end hole. I tilt the carto and slowly drip 18 drops (per ml of carto capacity and these are 1ml cartos) onto the inner wall of the carto so it slides down into the stuffing while I rotate the carto. Then I wait 15 seconds or so then I drip however many more drops the stuffing wants to soak up. Then I do clean-up. If it is leaking, I clean that up. Then I tilt the open end down into the tissue and puff hard a few times into the threaded end to clear any juice out of the central air channel (I want to see light through there). If it looks too wet above the stuffing, I gently touch a bit of tissue to the stuffing (otherwise that liquid will be gurgling or spitting in my mouth). Then since this was a fresh fill of a blank, I now let it settle. I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes. Then it should be ready to vape. If you use thicker juices than me, then you may need to let it settle longer.

As I am vaping - if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or tastes bit off or the carto is getting unusually warm, I will take the carto off the battery, open it, add 6-8 drops or whatever it seems to want - may want 10-12 drops (I will either hold a bit of tissue against the threaded end hole just in case, or skimp on how many drops I add to make sure I avoid drips if I have no tissue). I check to make sure the threaded end is dry, give it a couple of puffs into the threaded end to make sure the air channel is clear, and continue to vape.

Note - it is easy for me to "open" my main cartos for adding juice because I replace the white end cap with a plastic or delrin drip tip (I get them at LiteCigUSA.net). So I can easily pull that out with my fingers when I add juice and it keeps my lips cool if the carto is hot.

That sounds like a lot, I only add 3 or 4 drops. Like GIMIKE said, I try to keep 'em wet.(that's what she said)

I fill my blanks using the "sock" method with a thing I rigged up. Seems like I'm topping off more than I thought I would with carto's, but I still like it better than the constantly changing the stuffing in my carts & cleaning attys (UGH)

Another trick I use, instead of a drip tip. I take a regular 510 cart, remove the stuffing & trim the insert end with an exacto knife. It's a lot easier than removing that little white plug & cheaper than a drip tip. Just make sure you trim it short enough not to touch the stuffing in the carto or you'll be sipping juice.

Good luck & welcome to the forum
