Hey all, I had a carto that I took apart after only using it for 3 days. It had a strong flavor in it so washing it out to reuse would have been pointless...

The heating element had burned through the surrounding material and into the polyfil a little bit. Is this normal? Or just one bad carto? It didn't have a burnt taste before I took it apart, so I'm worried the others I'm using could get like this and I'm not so sure that thicker material it burned through is very safe to be inhaling? I can't even tell what material that is, but I'm hoping someone here might know..

Thanks for your help! ;)

The couple I've autopsied also had some darkening of the material. From what I've read however if you keep them moist, top off before they start tasting dry it shouldn't be a problem. I've been getting 15-20 refills before tossing.

Also to remove strong flavors, try rinsing then soaking for an hour in everclear (high proof vodka should work also). Then rinse again and refill with whatever you like. Only ones that this hasn't work for me is menthol and clove.

I've torn apart the few cartos that have died on me, only one had burned the batting and it was my first one. I just wasn't sure when to stop vaping it so it was my inexperience that killed that one.

Now I always make sure the atty is centered even in a new carto and make sure to stop vaping before it goes dry and I haven't seen a burned one yet. As far as the safety of it, I would guess it's polyester batting and not a good idea to inhale while burning but I doubt that small amount will be much of an issue. I'd be more concerned if it burned like that all the time but with proper care it will not.
