Cartomizer vs. atty's and cartriges?

I recently ordered a Joye 510 with atomizers and refillable cartriges. (I'm very new at this by the way). I did this after getting a "Freedom Smokeless" brand ecig (found at northerner.com) on a whim a few weeks back. This is a cheap ten dollar ecig about the size of my 510... and it used cartomizers. I just loved that little cheap thing - and still works well after a month. It smelled great, tasted great, and had no nasty burnt smell.

After I got my Joye 510, I was rather dissapointed with the nasty burnt smell/taste even after a few weeks. I've cleaned it in peroxide, and then warm water. That didn't help much. I don't let it run dry or over puff on it.

Reading on the forum I've learned that my atty probably has some build up that is letting off those nasty fumes.

Here is my question: Do Cartomizers have this problem, or is this just an atomizer thing? I don't feel like fooling with the atty cleaning all the time (I guess I'm a tad lazy). So should I just go with the prefilled cartomizers and fill them myself on occasion - or is there another way to get my attys working right without too much hassle?:glare:

I appreciate your input & and am loving the generosity of knowledge on this forum.

I started with attys and the biggest minus (for me) was keeping them wet so I could vape the way I wanted. Finally just took up dripping.
I didn't thing too much of the first cartomizer---the ones I had were fickle beast at best. They are better these days but you have to be careful not to let them get too dry or you burn the filler and once that happens, you'll forever get a burnt taste.
The Cartomizers of today can be refilled and are pretty simple to fill.
The dual cartomizers are great.
I'm a lover of CE2 Clearomizers but you need a bit of patience with them and willing to do some simple modding. Hopefully soon they will have the kinks worked out of them because it's really great to see inside.

The cartomizers (cartos) are essentially a cartridge with a built-in atomizer. They're designed to be used once then thrown away. That can be a bit expensive, so most people refill them a few times before they toss them. Since new carto=new atomizer, the build up that gives that nasty taste is usually not a problem. I wouldn't expect to refill them more than 3 or 4 times, but they're much cheaper than atomziers.

There's various ways to clean/revive atomizers (for example: here), but it can be time consuming, and doesn't always yield "like new" performance. Sometimes, they just can't be fixed, so I just buy cheap ones in bulk and toss them when they start to wimp out on me.

ETA: He's right about the clearomizers, they give an excellent vape, but they crack and leak easily

The motto, "Keep it simple, stupid," was written just for me, and cartomizers were designed just for me. I love them, and I reuse them over and over--for about a week. Then I soak them in vodka, run hot water thru them, dry them out, and vape again. Eventually they get so they do not taste so good any more, but for about $2--I get a lot of vaping time out of them. I have only burned one, and that is a taste I will never forget--horrible!! If you keep them topped off as soon as the flavor changes, that should not happen.

I was convinced cartomizers were going to make the atty a thing of the past eventually. I'm no longer convinced. In my case I chose cartos due to tactile issues w/ a disability. However, they never have tasted or produced vapor like the better attys will. So I've opted down the road of a feeder system and atty. I currently use a VapeMate (Super T) when I'm feeding, and Boge cartos when I'm carrying as small as possible. I've recently invested in a bottom-feeder system from SweetVapes too.

In the end, the more I think about it, I'll end up using evolving cartos in the field, camping, short travel... and the feeder systems at home, work, and more stationary situations. -Magnus

I love Boge cartomizers on manual 510. You have to use the standard resistance on slim ecigs, but fat models like Ego and Riva and mods (anything with 400mah+ battery) can also use the hotter LR ones.

I get best continued performance with thin clear juices - 20% of less VG and clear so the juice won't leave any flavoring sediment like many dark liquids do. For me cartos give a more even vaping experience. No more fighting with cart and atty - just a nice fairly consistent wicking and drag. I often use a plastic or delrin drip ti as an easy-to-remove mouthpiece. As soon as the vapors seems a bit dry or a bit light or tastes a bit off or the carto is vaping too warm, I take it off the battery, pull the drip tip, add some juice, clean up (make sure threaded end is dry, blow into threaded end to clear the defined center air channel since I only use cartos with a defined center air channel, if needed I sop up any loose juice above the stuffing, recap (I recap w/ the the drip tip) and continue vaping. They hole 2x as much as a cart. they need juice less often.

More nice things about cartos - every flavor is separate, ever carto has its own new fresh atty built inside

They are a slight extra expense but I feel well worth it. Boges are the most popular 510 threaded carto. I can get at least a week's good use out of every carto. Since I am usually alternating 2 cartos, I get 2-3 weeks use out of the pair.

One note - I don't recommend cartomizers on auto batteries. If you are refilling cartos then no matter how careful you are, occasionally a carto will leak right on the middle of the threaded end of the battery. On manual Joye 510 you just have to wipe it up - the manuals are totally sealed metal there. But 510 autos have the hole there and are totally dependent on a small physical drag sensor right inside that hole.

I'm still new to using and trying out different carto's vs atty/carts or dripping...I recently picked up some dual coil clear carto's to try out... it's only been a couple of days with, but so far they are my favorite usage for all day vaping, I'm seeing better vapor and flavor production. let's see if they are still my favorite though, within a few weeks... I'm still using atty/drip or atty/carts for sampling or a change-up during the day though...

I hate carts.
Direct drip 306 atty works great but is expensive and time consuming.
I prefer CE2-X on analog style device; lots of vapor w/ minimal batt drain.
Too bad the CE2-X still have a couple bugs.
Dual coils are power hogs.
Dormouse 2.5ohm Boge Single coil carto will work.
2.5 ohm dual coil would be a dog on a 510 because it will be 5 ohms per coil.

Definitely cartomizers. Joogler has a sale with a free bottle of juice. Not sure if it'll work, but try the code ECF5OFF for $5.00 off your first order. Also pick up a couple of drip tips (cheap) it makes topping off cartos easier. Get the SR not Low resistance.

Cartomizers

Looks like they're out of stock. Send him an email, sometimes he has them.

hands down, cannot beat bogue carto's on a 510. I use to clean them, now I use one until it starts to turn brown around the atty and just throw it away. They last so long and the flavor comes threw great. Have tried lots of other things even the prefilled, which work good to. If you love the cheap little one you bought, buy another and the prefilled. The first 6 months I had the smokstick and loved it and it really helped me just loading the prefilled carto's on the battery and go.
I did not know then how to fill or what to use. You can spend a ton of money, the best thing to do is read
and then judge what you like. This is only one of the best sites to get info on. All the vendors have blogs you can join threw e-mail or newsletters. Its fun and you will never ever regret it. I do not miss smelling like a nasty cig, and love that I can vape without the smells, cough, and I feel great. Good luck to you. Happy Vaping
