I recently got a 901-501 adapter for my Riva 901 and purchased some 501D 3.0ohm Cartomizers for it. My previous experience with them was with a 21st century gas station e-cig where the cartomizers made the flavor much more consistent and i could heavily vape for the better part of an hour before they needed to be refill'd. However with these carts i get about 5-10 good vapes off them and then they get this very flat dull flavor that makes it awful to use them. Anyone know if somethings wrong with them? do they need to be broken in or something?

What juice - what PG/VG and how did you fill them.

I use those cartos with 20% or less Vg juices (i.e. like 80PG/20VG. 90PG/10VG, plus some Vapor4Life wow juices). I also avoid all juices that drop a lot of flavoring sediment (will clog a carto)

If you use thick juice they are hard to fill and may vape badly. If you overfill they will act like a flooded atty. If you don't let a filled carto settle it won't be properly wet. If it is not damp enough, it will singe.

And you can also suspect the adapter might have insufficient airflow.

---

How I fill a cartomizer (Vapor4Life for KR8 or Boge 510 for 510 which are all soft-cap w/ no inner seals and defined central air channel)

I use thin (20% or less VG) liquid or Vapor4Life WOW liquids, preferably clear liquids w/ no sediment

Filling a blank carto - I pop off the soft cap (unbent paperclip carefully in the mouth hole, not catching any wires or stuffing!). I hold some tissue against the threaded end hole. I tilt the carto and slowly drip 18 drops (per ml of carto capacity and these are 1ml cartos) onto the inner wall of the carto so it slides down into the stuffing while I rotate the carto. Then I wait 15 seconds or so then I drip however many more drops the stuffing wants to soak up. Then I do clean-up. If it is leaking, I clean that up. Then I tilt the open end down into the tissue and puff hard a few times into the threaded end to clear any juice out of the central air channel (I want to see light through there). If it looks too wet above the stuffing, I gently touch a bit of tissue to the stuffing (otherwise that liquid will be gurgling or spitting in my mouth). Then since this was a fresh fill of a blank, I now let it settle. I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes. Then it should be ready to vape. If you use thicker juices than me, then you may need to let it settle longer.

As I am vaping - if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or tastes bit off or the carto is getting unusually warm, I will take the carto off the battery, open it, add 6-8 drops or whatever it seems to want (I will either hold a bit of tissue against the threaded end hole just in case, or skimp on how many drops I add to make sure I avoid drips if I have no tissue). I check to make sure the threaded end is dry, give it a couple of puffs into the threaded end to make sure the air channel is clear, and continue to vape.

Note - it is easy for me to "open" my main cartos for adding juice because I replace the white end cap with a plastic or delrin drip tip (I get them at LiteCigUSA.net). So I can easily pull that out with my fingers when I add juice and it keeps my lips cool if the carto is hot.

Thank you i'm using a 20% clear liquid called lemon ice. And i haven't been letting them sit. among other things so i'll give this a shot and get back to yall

(Note - I was thinking you were using a slim 901 duh. SO see my subsequent post too but the KR8 and juice info here is worth reading)

20% PG or 20% VG? (if mr-E-liquid it is 20% VG so that should be fine)

And no - 3 ohm cartos are not high voltage cartos whoever said that (they are standard resistance for slim ecigs and near the bottom of LR for a 5v device). 3 ohm is what most use on slim 510. It is possible to use the Boge 2.5 ohm ones on slim 510 but they are hard to find and would make short battery life even shorter. I use Boge 3.0 on 510. (edit - you can use 2.5 and 2.0 on Riva 901)

21st Century may have been KR808D-1 or the incompatible rebrander version KR808D-2. Those KR models are a full 3.7v, hotter than 901 & 510 with a 3ohm carto. If you want that heat you buy something like Vapor4Life or a plain KR808D-1 and I recommend manual batteries and use a 2.5-ohmish carto like Vapor4Life WOW cartos or the SmokelessImage Volt cartos may be around the same. try some KR808D-1 cartos that are warmer - either Vapor4Life WOW cartos (around 2.5v) or the SmokelessImage cartos which should be similar ohms. That may work better for your expectations but still won't be the warmth of putting them on a KR808D-1 battery. Those two brand have an airflow slot cut across the center post and may not need a 901 to 808 adapter to provide airflow on your battery.

Could your carto be overfilled? Underfilled? Not allowed to settle? Also, if you singe a carto it will gain a bitter taste that will erase partially or totally the sweetness and flavor - that's why you have to fill well, let them settle, keep them damp.

I have been using 3.0 Boges on my 510's for 8 months (a cooler moist vapory vape with an easy drag). On KR808D-1 I use Vapor4Life WOW cartos (a tighter drag but hotter, providing more hit with the same juice).

And be careful with cartos. You likely have auto batteries. If a carto leaks it will do so in the worst place for an auto battery - right above the hole in the end of the battery. That's also bad for manuals that have an open hole there though they are less easily damaged.

I've tried 3.0 ohm cartos on a Riva. It produced a cool vape. They work well at higher voltage (5v) for me but not satisfying on the Riva. Cartos at 2.0 to 2.5 ohm would offer a more cigarette-like hit for you imo. You have to find you personal happy place. Trying several different ohms will help you do that.

Oh duh - I missed that he has Riva 901. Sure - you can use the Boge 2.0's which will run hotter. And also try the KR8 cartos I mentioned which may not need an adapter depending on which Riva 901 you bought. I believe the Liberty-Flights.com model is Eastmall and has a slotted battery post so less likely to need an adapter for KR8 cartos. The SLB model sold some other places does not have the slotted post.

Heatwise - Boge 2.0 are hotter, Boge 2.5 and KR808D-1 2.5 cartos like Vapor4Life WOW cartos and SmokelessImage cartos are medium, Boge 3.0 cooler and I was suggesting them because I misread and thought you had a normal DSE901

I like the 3.0's on 3.7v (my new Liberty Flights Riva 510 and my 3.7 mod box). Nice warm hit for me on those but many like more heat.
