I know that UltraSonic cleaning machines work great on Attys but I was wondering if anyone has used them with Cartos? If so, how are you using it.

I use both attys and cartos and would love to be able to collect the dirty ones together in a jar then just dump them into the cleaner for 15 minutes then let them dry for a few days.

I tried it with some Boge cartos and it doesnt get all the juice out. Boiling or power rinsing still seems like the best option.

I did ultrasonic with some cheap vodka. Couple of cycles, then couple cycles with fresh water, seemed to work fine. For drying I try to make sure things dry fairly fast -- hour in the oven, on a paper towel on a pan, 200 - 225F. Hot when they come out, but temps in that range work well.

I read somewhere to put cartos in a shotglass with Isp. achohol (but vodka sounds good, ; ) hummm burbon, rum ?), place in cleaner and fill cleaner like normal. Run through cycle a couple of times then just plain water with a little lemon juice in it. Have one ordered and will post about what happens. Hope it works!! Sure would make life easier. : )

So does it have to be the good kind (42,000 waves per second) or would the cheapo eBay ones (5,800 waves per second) work too? Do more, smaller bubbles do a better job than fewer, larger bubbles, or would the better one be overkill for what we're trying to do?

Just boiling never really got them clean enough for me. I've been soaking them in cheap vodka overnight, then shaking them vigorously, but I think the vigorous shaking knocks something loose inside and they're clean, but never really work that well afterwards. Maybe the ultrasonic thing would be gentler and more thorough?

Just an update: I actually found a decent one (Conair JC3SB, 42,000 waves, 5 timer settings, hardly used) on CraigsList for $15!!! I toss my spent cartos in a lidded glass jar with vodka (to soak), then once or twice a week I run a few 480sec cycles with vodka, then a few in warm water. After the vodka cycles, you can actually see little brown dust piling up around the sides - I'm guessing/hoping it's broken-down crud from the coils. It's working great for me. I've been using the same 20 cartos for a couple of months now, and it doesn't freak me out anymore when it's time to clean. I know SteelJan mixes her vodka with PG - that would probably work even better as a solvent. I might have to try that the next time PG goes on sale on eBay.
