I'll agree with Nev above about everything except punching your own cartos. First of all, learning to use a cartotank has its own learning curve without adding the other learning curve of punching your own cartos. The pre-punched cartos work just as well as the hand-punched cartos.
Second, hand-punched cartos inevitably deform the carto from a perfectly round shape to one that is oval. That minor deformity puts unnecessary wear and tear on the tank's o-rings (the rubber gaskets that fit between the end cap and the cartomizer and prevent your tank from leaking juice). Using pre-punched cartos eliminates these issues altogether.

When you notice the flavor drop off or the draw become stiff, it's time to replace the cartomizer in the tank. You can continue to use the same cartomizer and refill the tank multiple times. I typically can go through about 20 - 30 ml of juice on one cartomizer.
I don't bother trying to clean or recycle cartomizers. You'll never get them a nice as new. I figure I spent $5 - $6 a day on cigarettes, what's spending $2 for a cartomizer that should last me a minimum of one to two weeks?
I recommend trying a single coil cartomizer. I genuinely believe you will prefer it, and it will be less draining on your batteries, too.
Here's a cartotank setup tutorial I made for new vapors:

Here's a large list of online vendors that sell pre-punched cartos for tanks:

Be aware that if your new tank uses polycarbonate plastic, that some flavors can cause it to crack or melt:

Good luck with your new tank!
