Cartotank question?

Recently acquired a Smoktech DCTank and in it I'm using a standard resistance dual coil cartomizer. How often should I replace with a new carto? I've filled the tank now twice with the same carto, and the flavor seems to be still very good.
Also, do you clean your cartos? I've used the turkey baster method now a few times and it seems to work pretty good.

Cartos are a but finicky. Once you notice the flavor of your fav juice changing or a noticeable drop in vapor production then its time to replace it. I've never cleaned or reused a carto so I couldn't tell you how or of its possible. A carto can last about 3-8 days depending on a few things. Some juices aren't as coil friendly as others and cause the carto to get gunked up quickly. You can fry a carto setting your voltage or wattage too high. There are a few variables to consider and there is definitely a slight learning curve associated with using carto tanks. I recommend you try a few different brands at low res and standard res and see what you prefer. I would also recommend punching your own cartos. Punching is an entirely different subject. Depending on your vape style or juice viscosity will depend on the size of hole you punch and/or the amount of holes you punch. I think cartos are better than clearos and less complicated to deal with than an RBA and give you good flavor and great vapor with minimal effort once you find your groove with them.

I'll agree with Nev above about everything except punching your own cartos. First of all, learning to use a cartotank has its own learning curve without adding the other learning curve of punching your own cartos. The pre-punched cartos work just as well as the hand-punched cartos.

Second, hand-punched cartos inevitably deform the carto from a perfectly round shape to one that is oval. That minor deformity puts unnecessary wear and tear on the tank's o-rings (the rubber gaskets that fit between the end cap and the cartomizer and prevent your tank from leaking juice). Using pre-punched cartos eliminates these issues altogether.

When you notice the flavor drop off or the draw become stiff, it's time to replace the cartomizer in the tank. You can continue to use the same cartomizer and refill the tank multiple times. I typically can go through about 20 - 30 ml of juice on one cartomizer.

I don't bother trying to clean or recycle cartomizers. You'll never get them a nice as new. I figure I spent $5 - $6 a day on cigarettes, what's spending $2 for a cartomizer that should last me a minimum of one to two weeks?

I recommend trying a single coil cartomizer. I genuinely believe you will prefer it, and it will be less draining on your batteries, too.

Here's a cartotank setup tutorial I made for new vapors: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3710-5-cartomizer-tank-setup.html

Here's a large list of online vendors that sell pre-punched cartos for tanks: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...nched-single-coil-cartomizers-cartotanks.html

Be aware that if your new tank uses polycarbonate plastic, that some flavors can cause it to crack or melt: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...6-something-safe-cinnamon-citrus-flavors.html

Good luck with your new tank! :)

the draw on mine got really stiff then it started leaking juice like crazy out of the bottom, last a pretty long time though before that happened. although my smoketech carto flooded the first fill, switched to boge f16's and its been smooth sailing.

as far as punching goes, I just dremal a cut into one side and call it a day :) seems to do the job

The smoktech dual coil cartos are completely unreliable and require at least 4 volts to vape right because the coils devide the tottal watage in half.

If i were you i would replace you smoktech cartos with single coil Boge f16 Cartos. It is a night and day difference in vapor and flavor trust me you wiill thank me when you try them

My cartos have been hit and miss. But I also vape very thick juices, so I would imagine that it would shorten the life on my cartos. But i can normally get through a few tanks before I have to replace a carto. I've also just been using the boge xl cartos with a tank. Although make sure you like the flavor before you set it up with a tank lol. Some juices are only worth vaping a few drops at a time.
