Hey there! I have been vaping for a few months now, and have recently started using carto tanks. I like the taste and vape that the cartos give me, but I haven't bought one yet that hasn't flooded within days.

I have been using the Smoktech DCT low resistance cartos so far. I have read that the Boge cartos are better, and I understand that you get what you pay for...but is a flooding carto just a sign of a cheap carto, or am I doing something wrong? I use a needle tip and am very careful when filling the carto, but they always seem to flood about a tank or two into its life.

Also, is there an easy way to un-flood a carto, or clean it for another try?

Is this all in the same tank? Most of my flooding problems in the beginning were because of an air leak into the tank (gaskets not sealing all the way for various reasons). Other factors could be thin juice or too large/too many holes.

It's happened now in 2 tanks. I'm currently using a SMOK locking jugz tank on a k100 mech mod. The locking jug flush mounts on the k100. Even though there are vent holes in the mod...the draw is a little tighter when it's flush so I wonder if the additional suction from the lesser airflow is causing the flooding?

I have been using the pre-punched (3 holes) SmokTech DCT Single Coil cartos on a daily basis for over 6 months now. I rarely have any problems with flooding (regardless of PG/VG mix), but you do occasionally get a bad one. When they do flood, just empty the tank and blow through the carto from the battery end until juice stops coming out. Pop them back in the tank and you're good to go - no need to re-prime.

I doubt an air leak is the problem with the DCT, but it is possible that you're creating pressure when you refill the tank. How do you do it? Do you use a tool like the Slap Yo Mama.

Temperature can also be a factor - is it hot in Austin at the moment?

EDIT: Just seen your reply to Spazmelda - those tanks with the locking ring are probably the cause of your problem. The tighter draw causes the e-liquid to wick much faster - often too fast, as you're finding out!

Man, I wish I had some advice...I just started using a carto tank a few weeks ago, with Boge cartos, and the first fill ALWAYS floods the carto, no matter how careful I am. Once it gets going though, I have no problems--it's just when I fill up a new one. I've used the drip method and the condom method, and I make sure the center hole is clear. It doesn't seem to make any difference.

Is it hot in Austin he says...lol. At this time of year, 95 degrees feels like a blizzard. But thanks for the suggestion on cleaning. I don't have a carto tank tool yet, just being very careful with a needle tip bottle.

I have noticed that when using the needle method to fill my cartos they tend to flood out more often compared to using the condom method. Best advice is to just stick with it and take your time when filling your carts. I would also recommend checking out grim greens videos online on how to fill carto tanks. When i first started vaping he was my go to guy on youtube to show me all the ins and outs on vaping. Best of luck!

Okay, total noob question here...what is the condom method. I know the little rubber condoms that come on a carto, but could you clear me up on their 'method'?

Put around 10-15 drops in the "condom" and just slowly push your carto down until you see the juice almost overflow through the top of the center hole. Then let it rest for a little and continue until most the juice in the condom has been absorbed by the filler. You can watch videos on youtube as well

jSquared, it's a shame the locking jugz affect the wicking so much...it looks so damn sexy on my k100!

I know - the UDCT style tanks look so much better than the standard DCTs. I bought one when they first came out but they just don't play nice with any of my devices.

Haha! I realised it was a stupid question as soon as I hit "Post Reply"!!! Was too lazy to edit for vanity's sake!

With regard to filling, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you're not taking the top cap off - putting that sucker back on is what creates the pressure in the tank. If I remember correctly you can't take the top cap off the UDCT style tanks anyway...

That might be the problem. I have just been leavin the rubber caps off all together. Do they need to be put back on?
