If the old juice has a subtle flavor (like a prefilled cart from a starter kit) and the new juice has a strong flavor (menthol or something), you might not notice the old juice very much (if the old juice is strong, you'll probably notice it, and might find yourself reserving certain carts and even attys for that flavor, so it doesn't get in your other gear).

But if you're evaluating a new juice to see how you like it, it's only fair to give it an honest chance with a fresh cart and clean filler. Otherwise, your first impression might be of the juice, or it might be of the juice + old juice + grungy filler.

What's "grungy"? When it starts looking discolored, or stops absorbing liquid like it used to, it's worth rinsing it out and then replacing it (you'll lose a couple drops of juice, but it's not a huge waste).

I change mine out when I can inhale through the nose (french inhale) and it makes my nose feel like its burning.

I notice when I top the cartridge off it stops most of this.......a new cartridge seems not to have that problem for eight to twelve hours (at the speed I vap).

If you top it off, and you get no hint of that smell or taste, the filler is okay--my opinion.
