I've been browsing the forum for a few days now trying to figure out exactly what people do for cartridge cores (other than buying new ones) I read the post about using stuffed animal fluff but that has a few issues of its own (yes i did try it) I saw quite a few references to fishtank filter filler but honestly the only thing i can think of that goes in a fishtank filter is the carbon and I'm sure that cant be what people mean though I cant find details on it. So I thought I'd ask and risk looking dense for being unable to find the answer on my own. What are people using and how?

Hi Ryle, that's not a dense question, the cartridge filler has been discussed occasionally but I think the threads are hard to find.

As far as I know, the filler in cartridges is made with polyester or nylon. This isn't very appealing when it gets too hot, it could be toxic. If that happens in our atomisers or not, I don't know.

The filler material is thought to be the same as the stuff used in fish tanks and Katink has pioneered the way with stuffed toys, lol. The stuffing often used in toys is called Kapok Kapok - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Various materials have been tried to replace the polyester/nylon fillers but no other real successes have been reported yet.

Some ecig shops sell empty cartridges, ecig.com sell cores.

That's all I know, hopefully someone more experienced can help further.

I bought several hundred cores and mouthpieces from e-cig.com. Even with shipping it came out to about $.25 per core. The penstyle cores hold 1ml of liquid and last a long time. I have been filling them with JC juice and they have been very effective at transfering liquid to the atomizer. Haven't felt the need to drip since I started using them. Some of the mouthpieces were defective as they would not hold a core securely. About 10 percent were bad and I chunked them. If you buy e-cig cores you have to buy the mouthpieces though as all mouthpieces will not hold the cores. They work in all standard penstyles, Njoy, and, if you bend the atomizer a tad by biting it, Janty. Cant wait for my wicked e-liquid so I can give it a try. Overall I have been satisfied with the purchase.

Hi Suzy, you can clean the fibre with just water and then air dry.

Thank you Kate. I try to find my answers by reading through forum posts. I've been reading forum posts for weeks now, trying to get as much info as possible. I just ordered liquid and empty cores, as the carts alone don't seem to give me the kick I'm looking for. I'm assuming I just fill the cores with an eye dropper, I've read that dripping directly on the atomizer can cause them to burn out. I also just ordered a new ecig, the pen style, thinking maybe its my mini that's not giving me enough kick, also I have draw fairly hard. Haven't been vaping long but have 2 mini's, a pen and liquid on the way. If this doesn't do the trick I guess I will have to try a more expensive brand. At least no real cigs for now!

You can drip onto the cores with a dropper. The liquid will not soak all the way into the filler that way but it mostly works. You can get a syringe with a needle and inject liquid to the bottom of the filler until it soaks all the way to the top. You can also put some liquid into something small like an egg cup and put the cartridge, filler side down, into the liquid and let it soak up.

Well done on getting off the cigs. It takes a while to get the hang of esmoking, it's a bit of a learning curve. Just enjoy the journey.

If you don't want to use a syringe, you can use the dropper, then I use a safety pin to put little holes in core to get it all the way down into the cartridge.

Thanks Katy, will give that a try first as I forgot to order a syringe with my juice and cores. I have saved the used carts (pre-filled) and am assuming I can clean them and reuse.

Hi,

this might be a stupid question, but is there a point of getting the liquid all the way into the filler ? If I understand correctly only the top portion of the filler gets in contact with the atomizer, right ? Wouldn't it be sufficient (and easier) to just always keep the top part of the cartridge nicely wet ? Or is there any other reason why the whole filler should be soaked ?

Thanks !

you know, knutselpeter warned against using fish tank material as it contains some kind of chemical. so im really not to sure about the safety of using that now. then again, who knows what the chinese use.
I must have missed that... do you happen to know where he said that? (Or better still, have a link to it perhaps?)

As for getting good filler for the cores... an alternative that I do also use (next to fluffy toys ;) ) is simply buy filled cartridges that have real good filler (Janty and Partysmoker are two I find are quite good; Ruyan is too btw but more expensive) - smoke them - then re-use that cartridge and filler for my own juice. :) (I bought e-cig empty cores too, but I find the filler in those lacking... they get soggy and crunched together toward the bottom of the cartridge quite soon, I find - that was the reason I went on looking for alternatives from then on)

Will Janty carts fit either the mini or pen style from puresmoker?

I'm sorry, Suzyqto: I don't know... chances are that the janty-penstyle will fit the puresmoker pen (almost all pen-parts are inter-usable); but as for the mini.. really no idea. Probably the carts are different; with a lot of luck the insides might be the same, hope someone else can tell you - also a 'probable' possibility: take out the yentle wool with juice in it and put that into your mini-cartridges (bit messy though...)

Very good suggestion, thank you :thumb:
I've been seeing posts all over the forum that the Janty carts last the longest.

Speaking about Janty carts, when I ordered my Yentl I got a box of chocolade medium free. I am more the "tobacco" man not much into the sweet stuff. Today I loaded one of the choc catridges and I think I am now more addicted to choc cartridges then to nicotine, since there is no Choc liquid from Janty in moment that can end up with a heavy bill. Darn, when you think you gave up one habit, there comes another one.

Jag, at least this habit won't kill us! Or lets hope so anyway :D
