For future reference,

If I buy juice instead of already made cartridges,

should I buy clean new cartridges? Should I use the ones I already have? What about if you put a different flavor in them.....and you don't want to mix those flavors...
Is there some way to clean them out?
If I order from a site like vapor4life, do they sell empty cartridges like that? I have smoketip ones, I think the cartomizer or atomizer is a part of the cartridge...so if I get other cartridges, do I have to make sure they come with that part too?

Just confused and trying to clarify my thoughts since I think I will try juices in the future....save some more $$

If you are using a two part system, like and eGo or 510, that has the atomizer separate from the cartridge, you can take the white Fluval out of the cartridges and wash well with hot water, also wash the cartridge. Let them dry and start over.

A cartomizer has the atomizer and cartridge in one unit. You can wash cartomizers, and there a a couple of methods used. I wash mine by running very hot water tap water into the top of the cartomizer for 2-3 minutes, shake the water out gently, blow out the ends, and set them to dry overnight. I also rinse mine out with grain alcohol, not rubbing alcohol which has toxic chemicals added, then do a second hot water rinse before I dry them out. The alcohol seems to help break down some of the oils and I am able to get rid of most flavors that way. I vape a Djarum Special e-liquid from ........... It has a very high clove content, but I get rid of all the clove with this method. I had no aftertaste when I vaped an RY-4 liquid in a second fill. SOme people boil them for up to 15 minutes then let them dry overnight. I didn't like that method because most cartos have a sticker covering the metal tubing and the boiling tends to break down the adhesive on the sticker.

If you want to be absolutely sure, use one cartridge or carto per flavor.

Most sites sell empty cartridges and cartomizers. Shop around the web and try out a few different cartos and suppliers. Most of the cartos and batteries are made in China. I personally use a China supplier. But whatever works best for you is what you should go with. It seems everyone has their favorite combination of carto, battery, and e-juice.

Have fun and happy vaping!

I highly recommend that you purchase juices separately and refill your cartridges or cartos.

I you are using the atomizer + cartridge combo (not clear in your post), your can merely remove the fluval from the cartridge and rinse it out and let it dry. At the same time, clean the old juice out of the atomizer with 91% Isopropanol Alcohol by soaking it 5 or 10 minutes in a small container. Blow out as much alcohol as you can and let it dry over night.

If you are using cartomizers, I would order some brand new ones with the new juice.

The thing is, you don't really want to be testing new juices with a cartomizer, because if you don't like the juice, well the whole carto is ruined. Some folks say you can clean them, but.....others say you shouldn't.

For testing new juices it's best to use an atomizer and drip tip. The drip tip replaces the fluval filled cartridge and you can just drop 3 or 4 drops at a time directly into the atomizer.

Most sites will sell both empty cartridges and empty cartomizers for the 510 threading.

What model are you using? If its a kr808d-1, I think you are pretty much stuck with cartomizers. If its some sort of 510 you can go either way, cartos or attys.

I think within the limitations imposed on each system by supply & demand it is largely up to personal taste and/or finances. As an example this is what I've done with my two 510 systems. When I'd tested a range of juices using a drip-tip I got free with an order, I decided to make a one off (well a not-very-often is probably more like it!) purchase off 5 decent quality empty carts to fill with my favourite juices. These I intend to buy more of when when the samples run low but I don't like waste and so I intend to use up the rest of the eliquid samples before settling down to a few faves. For these less repeated or even possibly mix-and-match experimental juices I am cleaning out carts as needed from the USA mix or Regular flavoured pre-filled lines that came with the two respective systems (& I have now obviously vaped dry). That gives me a total of 15 carts which should be plenty for a long time to come! Actually the Regular ones were odd, they produced quite a bit of vapour but the taste was almost neutral, very little tobacco flavour at all & they have a slightly flattened end compared to the others I've seen. Anyway when using up some of a menthol flavour which wouldn't be a bad clash with tobacco if any lingered I just refilled one of these regular carts and it just vaped altogether like menthol.
I have a cheapo 808 carto system that calls itself an 808SD too and although the juice in the cartos is by far the worst tasting I have so far experienced it otherwise vapes surprisingly well. Also I can't be bothered buying 510 cartos when I like atty-and-cart arrangement better - well, not for the medium term future anyhow - but a carto system can be a little quicker and easier to use on the go. For these reasons and because I have 10ml of almost as cheapy but not nearly so foul menthol juice that I may as well use up but won't be bothered with on the 510 systems any time soon, I have changed my mind about trying to wash & refill these 10 cartos. I'm now going to give it a shot with at least some of them when I have the spare time and produce some cheap as chips menthol vapage to pad out my supplies :vapor:

If you are using Smoketip, that is a KR808D-1 Cartomizer aka carto, not a cartridge aka cart. Andy juice part that screws right on to the battery is a cartomizer. Vapor4Life is also KR808D-1.

It's hard to clean and dry cartomizers and ever get them to work well again. You can either add a compatible flavor to a carto that already has a flavor in it, or you can use blanks. If I hate the taste of a prefill I may just stick it in a bag and maybe try to clean it some day. If I like the prefill flavor OK, then I will top it off with whatever I have that is compatible like a plain vanilla or a plain tobacco. And for my favorite juices, I use blank cartos.

Thanks everyone!!! Yes it's a kr808d-1, so I guess they are cartomizers, my mistake, I'm still getting used to the terminology and what is what exactly.....

I'm a little confused, some of this is still over the top of my head, but I think I'll get it the more I read here on the forum...
in the meantime I still have probably a month's worth of already filled cartos so I will be fine with those. I hadn't finished my first menthol one yet but couldn't resist and started a coffee one, and I love it!!!

Thanks everyone for all of ur help, I am subscribed to this thread and will refer to it again when ready to start the juices, ty!!!!

The Smoke Tip has a lifetime warranty, but I imagine if you try to fill one of their prefilled cartomizers you'd void the warranty, so be careful doing that.

Vapor 4 Life cartomizers (empty or prefilled) will fit on the Smoke Tip battery. Just be very careful not to leak juice onto the SmokeTip or any other automatic battery for that matter. You can ruin the battery. Just wipe it off with a kleenex and before charging wipe with a little iso alcohol.

To add to swedishfish's excellent advise: when/if you do start filling cartomizers, after filling and replacing the mouth piece, place a tissue over the end that connects to the battery and blow through the mouth piece end. If there is any liquid in the air tube, this will clear it out and help in preventing any leakage onto/into your battery.
