Normaly this number is 56-81-5 as we know and should be pharma grade.. what is the difference of 56-1-85 also issued as pharma grade vg.. does anyone knows that sigma aldrich has that kind vg and ok for DIY liquid ?
I believe the number 56-81-5 refers to Sigma Aldrich's lot number, could see refs. below:
Glycerin G2289
Advanced Search
I'm no chemist, but it appears that G2289 SIGMA-ALDRICH Glycerin meets USP testing specifications and may be safe to vape. My guess: Vegetable Glycerin, Glycerol also called glycerine or glycerin regardless of the source whether it be olives, palm trees, coconut oil, or soy products may have the same chemical formula: C3H8O3.
You need to talk to a chemist for a definitive answer.

The difference is that it's a typo simply, as there's no CAS number issued named 56-1-85. You can see however, that it's a matter of two adjecent chars that's just been reversed by mistake.

As the good BrotherBob uptop commented, then any pharma-grade VG is fine for vaping, and correctly identified the different names for the exact same thing i.e. glycerin, glycerine, glycerol and VG :)

Edit: There's the sole issue of USP VG with remains from jatropha that should be avoided, but I believe that's a pretty rare scenario for us vapers, which almost always gets VG derived from palm, soy, coconut or rapeseed.
