To keep from appearing shameless, I will note that most of my blog is facts that all mixers discover sooner or later and they could be sub-titled "Learn from my mistakes" because I refused to listen to anyone when I started and made the mistakes myself. Those mixers who tried to tell me what I learned earned my respect. I don't see most of them around anymore and to keep myself from repeating their lessons, I wrote some blogs.

Back to being shameless, feel free to "Like" or comment on my blogs. That helps keep them on the "Best" listing and maybe make them easier for other new mixers to find?

If you are buying Glycerin USP over the counter at drug stores (like I do) it is probably made by Humco. Different drug stores (including Walmart) chains put their own labels on it. The last batch I bought had an expiration date of 9/2017. Usually found on the skin care aisle as they sell Glycerin USP as a skin moisturizer.

I'm still at 100% VG. I have done a little Thinning with DW, Everclear (too strong) and Bacardi 151 (used too much), but no Flavorings yet. I'm going to try thinning with a little Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, but will keep it to about 5%. On the (apparent) bad advice of someone, I used 20% of the 151. But for every-day vaping, it's 100% VG - not thinned. Maybe a little thinning with DW will help. I'm still very new at this, but wanted he purest juice I could find, and my limited research brought me to the Vendor I chose before.

I'm a pretty heavy Vaper, and it gunks up in less than a week... a big clump around the coil. I can clean it off by soaking in Everclear, and then a Glow Burn and knock it off, but it's aggravating, and tastes nasty. The color taints the whole Tank (a Vivi Nova, with original Silica Wicks and 1.8Ω coils at 3.3V).

It may be the 151. Rum usually has sugar put in it. Sugar is a great coil gunker. Everclear is your best bet, but somewhere between 2-4% should work and if that still is not thin enough then a little bit more of distilled water or all DW. The highly respected VG only mixer, Kurt, has a rule-of-thumb that the DW dilution of VG is 22% max. He subtracts flavoring from the 22% and mixes his VG that way so the total of flavoring and water is between 20-22%.

I was trying not to appear to Bash them, but to clarify, I bought my 100% VG USP and Nic from MFS. I'm still not Bashing them, but am looking for better.

It was My Bad in following a 20% Guide for DW, and using it with 151. One of those Learning Curve things. I only made 30ml, so I didn't waste much, and I use it in a Carto on occasion. It's not too bad, really, but my every day is 100% VG, no thinning at all.

Lately I've just been getting the glycerine usp off the Walmart shelf.. 177 ml bottle about 6 bucks.. same at CVS.. the bottles are identical except label... makes me think its the same bottler. Works great, not diluted... 99.9 % VG USP... like somebody else here said the .1 or .3 is probably water.. possibly just left on bottle during cleaning or bottling process... either way.. its USP.. you can pick the bottle up and chug it if you don't mind being irregularly regular... I like the bottles they come in.. fit 200 ml with a bit to spare, great for premixing a base or large batches. The poor cap shoots nicely into my smaller dispenser. Wish it was as easy to find all the other ingredients in store... I like to hold things, read labels.. or just get it on the fly. I tried Watkins flavorings and a few others.. a bit too weak for good e liquid mix. I'm using all VG base now, pg may still be as high as 30% though in mix depending on he much my flavors contribute. Still toying a lot with how much water to use.,, more VG doesn't necessarily mean more vapor, even with a wick that wicks thick liquid.. coil and heat come into play too.. using stainless wick that wicks straight VG no prob, still get more vapor with water in it.

Ever try blu cig, great vapor... I slung the liquid out of 3 carts to try in my eRoll, the liquid is super thin, some of the stuff from the VG based red oak line from Johnson's Creek is super thin and makes tons of vapor too..

I listen for the snap crackle pop in my atomizer... seems I'm getting best vapor production then... flavor and throat hit come through better thin as well. I can take 10% dilution VG mix, add 30 percent more VG diluted at 30 and have same taste and hit..

Reason I'm babbling about this, I just got off a kick of trying to use too much VG for more vapor and was really just wasting my time, I took all my batches and shot another 10 percent to 20 percent water on top and now I'm getting the results I expected from more VG. More liquid.. cheaper mix cause flavor goes further and water is cheap..tons vapor and hit. I think its really more dependent on what's in the mix.. I can eyeball my tank on the eRoll and gauge the proper consistency by how fast bubble rises when I flip it... or how it hangs to bottle wall when I slosh. I really want to make some sort of drip timing contraption to help get my mixes consistent.

I was also playing around with the dilution of VG. 50/50 PG/VG worked well for as far as flavor and vapor but a bit harsh for my wife. I've played w/ 15% water dilution but my vapor got a little funny. I will try it again at 10-15% and add some MTS Vape Wizard to see if that helps thicken the vapor a bit.

In general, VG gives more Vapor, and PG gives more Throat Hit (TH). At 50% PG, it was probably too much for your Wife. Other than that, PG is good for Dilution, and especially to add TH (all of this by majority word in the Community)... I just have a thing for 100% VG. Except for my very early experiences with pre-mixed Juices, I have not used PG, but I do know that I didn't particularly care for those pre-mixes, however, that may have been due to some Flavorings. I find that my 100% VG is Sweet and Cool, and I'm fine with the amount of TH I get.

Once I get into rebuilding with Kanthal, I'll use either 30g or 28g (depending on the Tank), and that will effect the Flavor and TH as well. This, and moves to things other than the stock Silica Wicks. I messed up and bought 1.8Ω Coils, where I really should have bought 2.4Ω for my application. All these things effect the Vapor... Heat, Harshness, Taste, Flavor, amount of Vapor... the whole experience, along with the quality of the E-Liquids, and the Voltage you use.

I'm thinking you meant to say that your E-Liquid got a little runny. As long as you don't have any Leaks, it would probably be OK. 100% PG is kinda "runny" too. To keep the 100% VG from Clogging something like an eGo-T/C, and various other tanks systems, some E-Liquid Vendors dilute with 5% DW. Kurt (as pointed out by Hoosier) advocates ~20% of combined DW and any Flavorings. When I added 10% of Everclear, and then 20% of 151, I didn't have any Leaks in my Vivi Nova, and they both Vaped great!!!... I just didn't care for the Everclear, and felt it was too much 151 for my taste. So really then, between 5% and 20% Dilution should be fine (not counting things like 50/50 VG/PG)... just know that you think you'll like the Taste and Flavor of whatever you add. DW is good because it's Neutral.
Happy Mixing!!! :toast:

BTW...

If you haven't tried Hoosier's Blog yet, here's the E-Liquid Calculator that I have used...

E-Liquid Calculator Ten Flavor's Plus PG/VG Adjusting

Since you are considering "adding some MTS Vape Wizard to see if that helps thicken the vapor a bit," this Calculator can help you maintain the Nic Level you want. It has fields for several Inputs, which would make it good for your application.
