In Italy is very good if it burns and you can adjust

I've tried the R3 in 510 and M40x types and found them to be terrible. Fiddly as hell to fill up and develop a burnt taste after the first 5 drags that doesn't go away. I wanted them to work but they just don't. They simply don't wick fast enough and are clearly a beta product.

I'll give the R4s a go when they reach the UK, but I've lost some of my enthusiasm for cartos to be honest. The R3s have left a bad taste in my mouth (literally).

Even if they improve the performance the filling process is a PITA. I don't really see why I can't just pull off the ring, drip inside, and replace it. Who wants to faff around with a syringe and a bendy plastic tube trying to stick it through a couple of microscopic holes. Yeurgh...

well you could always remove the inner refill plug and fill it like that then place the inner plug backwards, so its easier to remove and install. or you can use the center plug.

the r3 u tried , did u check the ohms, many people are using the lower ohm e2 at 2.5 or 2.6 and those get hot and cuase a dry taste at 3.7 volt.

now you can choose higher ohms when buying the e2.

Resistance isn't the issue as I'm using them on an M401 battery, so a really low voltage. I tried removing the inner plug but bent my tweezers trying to pry it out - it's pretty solidly in there, and I think I might break the carto getting them out. I've broken the little plastic tube for refilling now so I can't even fill the ones I have left :D

I'll stick with dripping for now, never had any luck with carts or cartos.

EDIT!

Ok, well I tried again when I got back from work. Used a little multi tool to pry out the bottom ring, and I managed to get it out without too much hassle (well, I broke two of the little plastic cups on a couple of cartos but what the hey). I dripped some liquid down the side and filled up the reservoir. Plugged it on to my M401 and 30 mins of vaping later - no burnt taste!

I took the bottom ring off a couple of my burnt tasting cartos and, yup, black burnt crap all over the coil. No wonder they tasted bad!

It seemed that the issue I had was with filling, using the syringe just wasn't working. Providing you can get the bottom seal out without damaging the carto then filling this way is easier and helps the cartos work as intended. I also tried a 510 carto with VG but I ran into wicking issues again (no burning though). Guess I'll have to make do with a little less vapour.

I'm going to keep vaping with this tonight and, fingers crossed, the good times will continue.

Is there a way to tell a Rev3 from a Rev4 by looking at the cartomizer? My reason for asking is this.... I have been ordering what I was told were Rev4's, and I noticed they did not have the silicon "washer" covering the fill holes. Just removed the mouthpiece and there were the holes to put the flex needle in. They also came with protective caps on both ends and the regular sized ones were in blister packs. Today I received another shipment of what were supposed to be Rev4's, but these had the silicon "washer" covering the fill holes, and had no protective end caps. They were still in blister packs though.
I'm wondering if I have received an older Rev. This why I am curious to know if there is a way to tell the difference between Revs by examining the cartos.
Hope this made sense and is in the proper thread... Thanks in advance for any and all replies.....

The ones you received today sound like the Rev4 as mine didn't have end caps and they have the removable washer covering the fill holes.

The first you referred to sound like older versions. Easy way to tell and I hope I explain this clear (there are pictures in a thread here somewhere that I can't find now). On the Ref4 the filler ring with the holes have a notch on each side earlier versions of the filler ring have no notches and are flat.

Thank you very much, Nomoreash. Your explanation was very clear. I will look for what you described and report back. With the holiday, it may be a day or so, but I will let you know since you were kind enough to tell me how to differentiate. This is a very big help.
Hope you have a very pleasant Thanksgiving. .... Horton

Kricher, If you are referring to the rev4 ceramic cartomizers, it is just the latest version that is on the market. The manufacturer has been making small improvements to them and each new improvement they call a new rev. (If someone knows more about this, please feel free to chime in..I'm doing my best to explain this). For example, the Rev3's did not wick well and many people said they experienced a "burnt" taste. The manu. did something, and released Rev4 which supposedly fixed that problem. That is the best way I can describe it.
I have tried the Rev4 XL's (double sized ones) and they seem to work just fine. I think you are on the right track using a drip tip because you can drip directly onto the coil and hence get the juice "cooking" right away. Then it wicks up to the coil and you can reduce the burnt taste. That's how I use mine.
Most vendors carry the Royal Smokers ceramics. Prices vary of course, but if it is Royal Smokers, it is my understanding they all are the same. Doesn't matter who you buy them from.
Hope this helped. Have a happy Turkey Day..... horton

Yeah, I've tried the R4 in 510 and Tornade Mega and had burnt taste.

Its a MUST .... say it again MUST .... Wash these suckers BEFORE using.

You can end up with a nasty taste that you will never get rid of if you don't

Thats just my experience... I have used 20 or so in the last two months experimenting.
They are great when they work right. Here is what I have learned.

If you want to use them without modding them at all...... Get the SHORT ones ... Not the XL
Soak your shorties in Vodka for 15 min with the carto completely dis-assembled.
Rinse with hot water (I steam clean mine) then dry.
Fill with .8ml of juice (I use syringe with blunt needle) Might as well fill now ... then put ring in.
Put back together with the filler ring (with two tiny holes) in upside down.
Throw away the thin ring if you have one (some r4s seem to ship with or without a second ring)
If your like me ... throw away mouth ring and use drip tip.

Vape away it should taste great.

My first Royal Smokers V4 had burnt, plastic taste. I didn't wash it out before using.

The second one I washed as the thread talks about and it works as advertised. I took the inner ring out and washed it under running hot water, blew it out, re-installed the inner ring and filled. It has been vaping great since.

I think maybe we all ought to prime the coil with a drop or two before vaping and after filling to keep the coil from crusting over while it saturates. That may be key to good vaping.

I also looked at the coil on the second one before filling and the new one was bright and shiny. I didn't look at the other one until after I started vaping and got weird taste.

Nomoreash --- I just checked the carto.... it DOES have the notches you referred to, so I can "assume" I have the Rev4's. Now I'm wondering about the other 40 I bought that were called "Rev4", but do not have the notches. Why the manufacturer can not label the boxes with what they truly contain is beyond me.
I have used several of the notched ones without cleaning and had no taste problems. I did put a drop or two of juice on the coil after filling just to "prime the pump" so to speak. They are working fine.
Only problem I have is telling when it's time for a refill. My taste buds are still "waking up". My wife can sense a slight reduction in taste, and I will sometimes notice a reduction in vapor, but nothing really obvious. Maybe the next Rev will have a little "juice gauge" on the side....lol.
Thanks so much for the help..... I really appreciate it! Hope you are having a pleasant Thanksgiving day...... Horton
