Hey all, I just got a couple boxes of CE2 (clearomizers) from MVS. They seem to function pretty well with one exception: They burn the wicks (both 2.4 and 3.0 ohm, "3.7v" ego passthrough battery). I've tried filling them and let them set (upside down) over night to see if it's just a slow wicking situation with my particular juice but I'm getting 100% reproducibility.

Now, here's the deal, I really want to like them, and was hoping that with the new R5s they wouldn't need to be tweaked, but it doesn't seem I'm going to get that particular wish. I'm guessing the wicking problem is due to the wicks being smashed up against the cylinder at the top.

On a new fill on a new unit I can get 2-3 awesome puffs then burn. Literally - I kept going with one just for grins and the wick is black and nearly destroyed with a medium thickness juice.

Has anybody had any time to play with these yet? Any recommended mods for these particular units? I know there's stuff for the R4 and under and it may be relevant but thought I'd see if there's any R5 specific stuff yet.

Thanks!
H

I always reposition the little silicone cup first...just a smidge higher than it is already installed over the ceramic cup. It seems to give more room for the wicks to do their thing. There are many ways to do this, but if you don't want to take the whole thing apart, take a small but not-sharp implement, insert where the slot for the wick is, and gently lift up. Repeat on the other side.

hardaur,

What kind of e-liquid are you using?

All PG?

I got a batch of 2.4ohm Clearomizer XL from MVS as well last week. My 80PG/20VG juices do very well in them. Smoothest vape I've ever had other than dripping.

I did have one PG juice that was just too thick...even with the 3rd ring lifted. I added a bit of distilled water and it did much better from then on.

I did have some strong cinnamon juice eat one of the plastic tubes to bits after a few days. I cut down a 3ml syringe and it fits perfectly...also has a little bit more room for the wicks, and if you like you can make it a little longer than the stock CE2 sleeve and it'll add a little flavor.

Grab a 3ml syringe and give it a try.
I just pulled the plunger out...shoved that end down over the gasket at the bottom, then cut the needle end down to the length I wanted (I did mine a little longer than the stock sleeve) with a dremmel disk, snapped in a drip tip and it's vaping great. Took about 2 minutes to mod.

Ok, I guess it was a problem from the top. Currently I'm using a new 2.4 ohm CE2 with the bottom silicon cap removed (for testing really, will probably end up finding a way to get it back in with same results) and it's doing great. I wouldn't want to turn it upside down or anything without it, but so far, even putting it on its side without that piece isn't causing a problem/mess.

Credo, I may end up trying this too, it's a great idea!

Still open for any other ideas, suggestions, tips, tricks, large cash donations, etc ; )

Thanks for the feedback folks!

A good PV tip in general...

Pick out a favorite glass or mug with a nice heavy base. Wad a bit of tissue loosely and push it to the bottom of the glass.

Presto...instant PV holder. Keeps all your PV's loaded, upright and ready to go. I even keep a filled syringe ready to load and a few tweaking tools on stand-by in mine. No more having to lay it on its side...rolling off the desk, etc. As easy as carrying around a coctail, you've got all your PV stuff ready to hop about the house :)

I just sent this email to myvaporstore

Hi, just wanted to let you guys know that the new CE2 CLEAR 510 XL 2.6ohm Carto's still develop cracks at the batt connector end. I vape only 50/50 Cinnamon ejuice. This time it was FreedomSmokesUSA Cinnamon Ceylon 18mg. I'm going to suspend ordering any XL Clearo's until the mfg gets this resolved satisfactorily.

Cheers,

otrpu

Try pointing the battery end of your PV up slightly when you vape. If this helps then it is a wicking issue. You might also try doing a ECF search for the PTB mod.

JSYK - If you have hit an E2 too many times and gotten a burnt taste, you will probably need to clean and dry burn it to get rid of the terrible taste.

For me having to mod anything from Rev 4 on to get them working well is the exception.

It'll be hard to ever make a 'wicking' system like this that will not require adjustments for optimal performance for EVERY JUICE mix out there. Yes, they can do something that will make it 'easier' to make the adjustments, and hopefully they will soon.

Sometimes with thicker juices I have to 'lift the bottom ring' tiny bits until it flows the best for me. I don't have to 'cut' anything.

With clearo's...they crack sometimes at the bottom and leak. I flip the sleeve and use it unless both ends are cracked. For juices that eat the clearos, I use a syringe or a metal CE2.

Never had a problem with the metal ones.

Instead of tanks...I just fill a few XLs. Easy and cheap enough to unscrew the empty and screw on a filled one.

They ain't perfect for sure...but nothing I've ever owned for a PV so far has been. For me, until something better but similar comes out, this design is a good balance.

I'm going to try wrapping alittle teflon tape around a cutback R6 and see how it works in my Storm Tanks. I've a gross of R4's and 10 R6's. If it works I'm set for a couple years. My opinion both versions are juice hogs. JMHO

Cheers,
otrpu

I agree, they do like the juice!
One thing I have noticed that even when they look 'empty' those wicks hold quite a bit. Odd, can sometimes vape as long when it 'looks empty' as I did getting it to that point. Do the wicks really hold that much?

When you stop buying them, they will fix the problem.
Until then they are laughing all the way to the bank.
Don't be offended as I have kept them laughing to.
Got an eGo-Tank but the good old CE2 has it beat for vapor & flavor hands down.
Will probably send the eGo stuff to my son who swears by them. To each their own you know.

True, but if I don't buy them, then I'd using something that doesn't work any better ;)

If everyone buys them, then some competitor will be pressed to make a 'better one', then these must improve or get cheaper to stay in the game, and so forth.

What's funny to me about the CE2...is if they are so horrible, how come they always sell out within' a few hours of anyone stocking them...then it's back to wating and holding our breaths that another shipment actually makes it through customs.

Ok, re-hijacking the thread : b

I've had the clearos for a while and I was a bit rash I think. I'm loving the hell out of 'em now. Great taste, no wicking problems, etc (without mods, think the wicks just needed to be used a bit). The cylinders do crack, more than enough to be annoying, but a little ring of superglue spread around the bottom (mine crack at the bottom) seems to fix 'em right up. I have 2 packs of fluxomizers that I haven't had to open yet and am looking forward to trying the Vortex from gotvapes. . they're on order. I'll post something after I've vaped on 'em for a few days.
