My friend started using a PV last week using CE5 clearos. Last night, he got a mouthful of vapor, so I took it and started to inspect it. I noticed the tube was spinning freely from the bottom metal piece that threads onto the CE5 base. I was able to remove it completely, clean it, and it sort of "snapped" back onto the metal piece, screwed it back onto the base, refilled, and he was good to go. Are those tubes supposed to be able to separate from the metal collar?

No - that is definitely NOT normal.

I've been using a few ('Stardust', long wicks) for the past 2 weeks without any issues other than the occasional little drop of liquid on the battery head after a day of vapeing. Haven't had any spin on the bottom piece; figured it's not just the o-ring holding it there, but glue also.

I've had that happen a few times. Like Ben C said, no it isn't supposed to separate like that. What it boils down to is poor quality control. You can definitely press it back on but I would be very careful with that unit as it could come apart just as easily and it will be at a higher risk of leaking around where the tube meets the metal at the bottom. I've been using clearos for several months now and bad QC is their biggest problem. When they are good, they are great (my opinion) but they definitely aren't always good.

The first time I had this happen, I kind of went into panic mode...

Did some searches on youtube, and there are videos of how to change out the coil/wick on these clearos... First step is pulling that metal collar off. :)

I'm pretty certain that it's more for aesthetics than for function. The o-ring on the inner metal base is what prevents fluid from leaking all over the place. The metal collar doesn't even really hold the inner assembly in the tank, it's all held in by compression of the o-ring.

Thanks for the replies. As for quality control, they're Salebao's, so I would have thought they're pretty good. I've since then learned that my friend noticed the tank being a bit ....-eyed after doing some yard work when it was in his pocket, so he may have put some force on it.

Are we talking about the same "collar"? You only need to remove the bottom base, nothing to do with the collar I am referring to:

HI telijah,
Most are not using a clearomizer by SLB. Where did you buy it?
I remember reading one veteran say, "the only thing good they ever made is a battery".
Those collars, even on Vision, can be pulled off with a little effort. And you should have no leaks with forceing it back on. I used to do it with Vision V2.

This particular one, and my friend's, were part of our starter kits we got from a local shop. I will agree with you though, after pushing it back on and refilling, there doesn't seem to be a problem. I think it was from it being tweaked when in his pocket and doing yard work, I have yet to have this kind of problem with my CE5 clearos that are from SLB.
