the hole placement isn't casual or random, the cap is threaded to the base and each cap is going to stop in a different position relative to the coil placement depending on where the threading of that particular cap/base assy winds up.
on the older chalice after it was fully machined the cap would be screwed on to it's matching base, then marked for exact coil position to that particular base, and then the air hole would be drilled and the word chalice lazer etched, so they all seemed to line up the same, but the c3 has a deep engraved logo which is done while machining and prior to the cap being fitted to any specific base, so on the c3's the cap is mounted and then the coil position is marked and then the inner cap is pressed into the cap to line up exactly where the coil position winds up centered on that particular cap/base assy. in that sense the logo placement is fairly random because it could stop at any position relative to the coil position depending on how the threading falls on that particular cap/base assy but the airhole will always be directly at the correct coil centered position.
if you have multiple c3's then it's a good idea to keep each cap paired with the base it came with, switching caps between c3's could result in miss aligned air holes. the same holds true for earlier chalices too, only difference is on the earlier ones the logo was lazer etched after so the logo always matched the airhole, not so with the c3 because the logo was machined first
