One noob helping another:
YES---> I DID read the "stickies" for noobs before I bought my first e-cig, however most of it went whoosh (over my head ).

After getting my first mini (or cigarette size e-cig if I have the name wrong) I just felt I was "sucking my head off" and getting little reward for my efforts. :cry:If you have this problem too, read on . . .

I re-read some of the INFO PAGES a few days after I received my e-cig and I found out that I could intensify my enjoyment out of my little mini e-cig by learning the proper technique of vaping style. It's made a LOT of difference, as I was doing it all wrong. I was trying to vape as if I were smoking an analog (real) cigarette. It doesn't work that way.

I recommend you "read", or "re-read" this technique:
Go to the INFO pages (found at the top of this site)
and find BEGINNER'S TUTORIALS.
Go to page 2
of the Tutorials,
scroll down maybe 3/4 of the way and read USERS TECHNIQUE.

It will help if you are frustrated like I was, and trying to "smoke" instead of "vape".
THANK YOU ECF FOR THESE HELPFUL STICKY PAGES!

I second that! I had to go back on a few differnet topics - this being one of them. I havent accidentally sucked the juice into my mouth for almost 2 days now! What a relief, it was nasty!!!! It is hard to to retrain yourself how hard to draw in. I just need more practice. :D

I was lucky we have a local shop, and they taught us how to vape.. but hey some of the juices dont taste that bad if sucked into your mouth..lol

Flatout... we were trying to vape the same way we smoked, and the coughing fits were uwfull... like the "turtle and the hare"... slow and steady wins the vape....

I started out inhaling it directly like a cigarette and the back of my throat was really tender, maybe burned a little. Puffing like a cigar, then inhaling solved that. It's posted here that most of the nicotine absorption happens in your mouth, so inhaling isn't even necessary to keep away the cravings. I suppose that's true, but I'm happy with the puff and inhale after a year and don't even want much throat hit - I like that warm fullness in my lungs though. It takes a couple days for your throat to heal up after you stop directly inhaling. Until then, even a light puff will have a burning feeling on those tender tissues!

I'd smoked the same way as "individual", inhale into the mouth and then into the lungs. My vaping is similar, I start by inhaling into the mouth (but releasing some through the nose) and without taking the tip away take another pull (gentle, slow and long) into my mouth and take down to the top of the lung but not into them (if that makes any sense?). I then release the vapour slowly through my mouth and nose ... that seems to works for me.

Though, and I'm sure I'm not imaging imaging this, my boggies are cleaner since stopping smoking but they are super sticky ha ha. I have no idea what this means or if it's relevant?

Does anyone inhale like they would a cigarette? It seems I see some vids where people do but I have to fill my mouth up first then inhale.

It's possible, but it ain't very good. I don't hear of anyone doing it routinely. It's especially possible with a little mini-ecig. Try it with a higher voltage or stronger PV and you'll knock yourself out.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of the nicotine is absorbed in the mouth and sinus cavities. It's not strictly necessary to inhale into your lungs at all. Something good to know if you ever have a bad cold or something that makes your lungs sore. You can vape like you'd smoke a cigar and get along fine.

You're not imagining it. It happens because PG and VG are humectants. They tend to dry out mucous. That's the reason you need to drink lots of water when you're vaping.

I use that technique a lot too. I don't inhale deeply at all. I get all the taste and just as much nic that way as well.

guess ive always done it wrong, works for me though, the only thing i ever directly inhaled was not tobacco, i havent done that in years though.

Wow, I've been vaping so long I forgot how I used to smoke. Now that I think of it, that other stuff was the only thing I ever directly inhaled without a stop in the mouth first. Even with a cig, you draw into your mouth first, then inhale. It's just different with vaping. You do it similarly but slower and gentler.

Every time I see one of these threads, I am amazed at the number of posters reporting that they direct-inhaled their cigarettes, as opposed to taking smoke first into the mouth and then inhaling. Maybe I haven't paid that much attention, but over decades as a smoker, I don't think I've known or noticed more than a very few people who did that.
