If you add glycerin to your e-juice it will smooth it out but it will also weaken (dilute) the flavor of the juice.

Not really. If you refill cartos and let them sit overnight, so the mixture fully soaks in, the flavor is about the same.

I was giving Sully advice for when he or she gets into mixing his or her own liquids.

Ok so after more reading - I see that best flavor options are with juicing your own carts in the 3 piece models. I'm willing to try filling my own. Since I'm a beginner - I'm interested in a 510 or 901 - I'll give the KR808's to my husband who hasn't had an issue with harsh TH's.

Now - is there any preference over branding? I like Totally Wicked's site for the e-Cigs Titan (510) and Mini (901), also VaporKings Shorty.

So give me your favorite VG juicing sites. I'm not going to get into mixing my own juices until I take the first step into filling my own first. Are there atomizers that are better than others? Is there a safe brand to stick with?

You can also refill the Joye 510 cartos by dripping juice into the metal tip slowly, one drop at a time. Hold the carto upright with the metal tip upward. Place one drop of juice on that little hole in the battery end and let it soak in, then another drop, and about as fast as you put a drop on top of that little hole, it will draw it inside until it gets full. If you continue to put drops in after it's full, it will start draining out the mouthpiece, and you'll have to use the steps above to avoid juice in the mouth.

Sully - Everyone has their own preferences on how to refill cartomizers, but I prefer to take the white cap off the mouth end and then drip the liquid into the filter, holding the carto at a 45 degree angle. I'll drip from either a bottle that I've already mixed up some ejuice with VG -- or from a condom (the clear rubber end cap that comes with cartomizers when you buy them) when I'm testing new flavors (by adding the ejuice and VG, stirring it in the condom with a paper clip, and then pouring it into the mouth end of the carto). To fill an empty cartomizer, you can expect to add about 20 to 30 drops, depending on how many times you've refilled the carto. The more you refill and clean cartos, the more the filter inside shrinks.

You can just get a DSE901 atty. It is compatable w/ the KR8. Same threads. Don't give up on cartos yet. Just save your empties for refilling.

My 2 cents...
Try a 901 atty on an eGo... gotta pick up an inexpensive 510 to 901 connector... I think the 901's are great for a long, smooth, drag... I like the LR 901's

(I never had luck with a 901 atty on a KR808 - perhaps I had been doing something wrong... I dunno... love the 901's though)

UBRocked has made several videos that are very good. I would suggest watching all his e-cig videos at YouTube.

Here's one about mixing e-liquids:

YouTube - How-to-video for mixing E-Liquid with glycerin and LorAnn flavorings

I don't use LorAnn flavorings, though. Just the ejuice I buy and Glycerin from Wal-Mart.

I've been DIY for longer than you've been vaping. lol I know all about it, don't need to watch any vids. My point is still the same, for someone w/ no experience in even using e-juice, let alone DIY, the best advice is to try out some known, good VG if they are having irritation. And trust me when I say I have thinned out MANY juices w/ VG, and yes, it does dilute the flavor. Can't you imagine how much it is for someone to take in who has never even filled a cart to talk about mixing DIY stuff?

By adding VG to the ejuice you buy, you're not really mixing your own juices. You're just making the final liquid smoother, less harsh, more blended, thicker liquid, and more vapor. The DIY mixtures are when you buy unflavored nicotine juice, the flavoring, the PG, and the VG. I haven't done that myself yet and probably won't. I like the RY4 juice from FreedomSmokesUSA.com. It tastes like caramel, and I also bought Apple from them and added it to the RY4 juice, plus about 1/3 Glycerin. 1/3 each made a very smooth mixture that tastes very good, with good throat hits (not harsh), and good vapor.

I've bought three cheap starter kits since I started vaping, and I finally found out I should have bought a Joye eGo 1000mAh battery to begin with. I bought it the other day from cignot.com for $24, the USB charger for $8, and I bought two of each. The majority of people here (with posts spread out all over the place) recommend the eGo battery. Cignot is one of the few places that has the 1000mAh battery available. Don't order any from overseas suppliers, though.

I use the 510 Boge cartomizers with Soft End Caps from litecigusa.net (box of five for $7.95). They work fine and can be easily refilled several times. I don't have to mess with atomizers and cheap little cartridges, because cartomizers have the atomizer built in.

I also just bought much cheaper ejuice from VaporRenu (like almost 1/2 the price of the other eliquid suppliers) and received six bottles yesterday. I'm still testing those juices from vaporrenu.com, but I think if I let them sit overnight to fully soak into the cartomizers, the throat hits will be just fine for me. I've found that the throat hits from vaporrenu are less than the other suppliers I've bought from (also bought from myfreedomsmokes.com), so I'm gonna have to add less VG when I mix those juices. They might be perfect for you, though, without adding any VG or with adding 1/3 VG. A 30mL bottle at VaporRenu.com is $6.99 and a 30mL bottle from FreedomSmokesUSA.com is $15.00.

Getting into vaping has a long learning curve, and everyone has their own preferences. I'm only posting here to give new vapers my experiences and what I've found has worked the best for me. It took me awhile and several hundred dollars to find what works best for me.

Good luck!

Honestly, if you are going to get a different model(not recomended by me), you should go to cignot.com over TW. TW is overpriced rebranded Joye stuff. Nothing wrong w/ it, if you like the Devil logo on all your stuff. But that is all you are paying extra for. My best advice to you is that the 501 autos are sound activated. If you go w/ a 510 or a 901 I would stick w/ manuals. The only autos I have had that work well are the KR8 and the SmokeStik(like Katharine Heigl has). The SS autos are the closest thing to an actual e-cig I have tried, but they are pricey. Here is the ECF discound page SmokeStik ::: Alternative Smoking They have pink or gold batts for $15 for ECF members. And you can get refillable empty cartos at goodprophets.com. Your first order gets you a free 30ml bottle of VG juice.

The link to the YouTube video wasn't for you. It was for Sully, who's a newbie and should watch some videos and read lots of threads here to learn more about the vaping experience.

I know this is a lot for Sully to take in, being a newbie. But I was a newbie once, I catch on to things very quickly, and there are some products I wish I had not bought (when I was a newbie and didn't know what the hell I was doing). I could have saved about $600 if I had gotten the right advice a month ago. That's the problem when you have a forum with so many different opinions.

I'm not here to argue with anyone; I'm only here to help people save money and buy the right products to begin with. It seems the majority of people here buy the cheap starter kits, try other starter kits, and then end up buying a Joye eGo. It's the same with people trying out liquids and mixtures. But that part is something everyone has to experiment with on their own...to find the right mixtures. And it gets expensive to try out all sorts of ejuices and PG/VG mixtures. I think having some knowledge about what you're doing at the beginning will help save money in the long run.

Oh, and LR atty on a KR8 might have been the problem. The KR8 has 3.7v loaded. The DSE901 is @3.2v loaded.

Deback... I love research too and I think what Lowthudd and others are trying to say is that too much knowledge can choke a newb like too much milk an choke a baby. All the info based on everyone's opinion about what works for THEM.

As far as spending money goes.... I'm not sure that I have over spent when I consider that I was spending 5.50 a day to kill myself with analogs. I enjoy the PIF thread here in the social forum and that's an awesome place to get juices to test and pay forward those that are not working for you... so that someone else may enjoy what you could not tolerate. It's a way of helping each other find our own sweet spot!

Good luck Sully!

Hey Sassy Sadie - I understand what you're saying, and I understand what Lowthudd said, but I have no idea whether Sully is a fast learner or not. So I took my chances and posted my opinions, just in case it would save her a few hundred dollars. I've spent over $900 since 09/03 on all this stuff, and I could have bought what I ended up using for around $300 (that includes enough ejuice to last for a couple of months, two eGo batteries, three passthroughs, and all the adapters, chargers, etc).

The reason for my overspending is because I didn't do any research at the beginning. I just ordered a starter kit from the first URL that someone on another forum posted. I work at home, so I didn't know about e-cigs until the beginning of September, when I happened to read a post on a Chantix forum. After I received my first starter kit order (11 days later), I started watching YouTube videos and used Google to search for stuff. I didn't start reading threads here regularly until a week or so ago, and I've read a lot since then. I don't go with just one person's opinion. You never know if that person works for the company they keep promoting. I've read enough opinions here to come up with my own ideas of what works best for me. It took about a week of reading, but I finally have the setup that works great for me. So, I'm now spending a little time trying to pay back what I've learned so far. If someone is new and doesn't understand what I'm talking about, they'll just ignore it. But if my posts help others to find their best setup, then it was worth spending time to post here.

Here's another good video about doubling your ejuices to save money, lessening throat hits, increasing vapor, blending the flavors, and getting a smoother mixture by adding Glycerin:

YouTube - Straight E-liquid VS E-liquid cut with glycerin

It may decrease the flavor a little, but it's not that much of a difference. Sometimes, it's a good thing to lessen the flavor a little, when you get all the other benefits of adding Glycerin.
