Hi there! I'm still new to vaping but I can answer this.

Yes, the Carto is a replacement for atomizer and cartridge. Yes, you can buy pre-filled cartomizers. Yes they are a single disposable unit.
BUT...
You can refill Cartos, and save lots of money. You can buy blank cartos, and fill them with your very own selection of juice - far more available than what comes in pre-filled cartos.

What kind of set-up do you have?

I agree with the above...many vendors selling good cartos- let me recommend you do a search for Boge 2.0 cartos...they are THE real deal...usually 5 for less than $10 too. Put your own liquid in them- they work well with the 510 battery...either original or some other form of the 510! Taste is great and these can be refilled many many times before pitching!

I thought LR atomizers and cartos should only be used on batteries that are at least 450mAh, and that using them on regular 510 batteries would ruin the battery. If he's using an eGo or a 510 Riva, then he should be fine.

You can get them here, or here, or other places. Most people will recommend the LR Boge soft cap ones. you can get them prefilled or blank. Most people will recommend blank ones (but I liked to get them prefilled and then refill them myself, it seemed like they worked better/wicked better)

YOu can refill them a few ways. I like the condom method, but if you get the soft cap ones you can pop the cap off and drip into the filler like this.

edit Almost forgot pros vs cons:

pros :) :
• very convenient to carry around
• you can fill some up at night and take them with you the next day - no more topping off
• they hold more liquid, so last longer per fill than cartridges

cons :( :
• they are meant to be disposable, so can only be refilled a few times before they quit working well
• you won't know they've gone bad until you fill it and try to use it... waste of juice
• you have to keep buying more and more of them
• if you singe the filler, they are ruined - but you might not notice the filler is singed until you refill the next time... waste of juice

neither here nor there:
• most people say they prefer dripping or carts for flavor and vapor, I still say cartos are the best for both.

Oops, your right. But I thought they didn't ruin the battery they just drained it way faster (which you definitely don't want if you are using a little 510 battery lol!).

Not only will they drain the battery faster they can indeed lower the usable lifespan of the battery.

edit: and depending on the battery they can also destroy the internal circuitry. there are a few threads about this happening to people.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know that.

Is the Boge 2.0 considered a LR carto? They do have a 1.5...thought 2.0 was normal...but if they are indeed LR, then I would say find ones that are higher ohms than 2.0... You are right, if you're using the regular 510 e-cig battery, it will run the battery down faster (these already need to be recharged too often in my opinion) and will could cause internal harm to the circuitry. Riva battery and ego batteries are really the way to go! freedom-flights.com has all of these at a decent price!

I am using a 510, so I need to find a cartomizer unit that will work with or is made for that type of battery, correct?

Yes, any 510 threaded cartomizer that is about 2.4 ohms or greater. Not the 2.0ohms kind. If it doesn't say how many ohms then they are generally going to be the right ohms for your 510. If it says LR, it's going to be the 2.0ohm kind so don't get it.
