Well i went to red last night and decided to plug my new MVP2 in at around 11pm. Woke up at 8am and its still now fully charged......... whats going on? Its at 4.1V for the charge but the green light never went off. According to the manufacture it shows that a full charge should take 2.5 hrs?

Its attached to a wall charger thats the same recommendations as the instructions show. I hope my battery isnt going bad or anything...... this is the first time ive charged it.

Are you saying that when you woke up, it had a solid green light or still a red light? If it was solid green; well, I don't know what the "idle charge shut-off time" is - that is, how long it takes after it is fully charged before that light turns off. If it was still red, you may have some other problems. Just an odd suggestion that I try when something goes a little funky: Try turning the device off by pressing the fire button 3 times and then turn it back on the same way. I'm not sure why, but this seems to restart the electronic components in the device and helps when something gets "buggy".

i always plug mine in before going to bed and the light is off in the morning. i plugged in 2 days ago after hitting 'yellow' for the first time ever with the device. i plugged it in and went to bed, next morning 'red'...uh oh????

well what happened is the USB plug to the wall charger was not plugged in all the way and the unit was on all night. lesson: turn off MVP, ensure all connections are solid, then you should be good.

i do a lot of on/off throughout the day, so i hope the button does not wear out. i think that turning it off resets everything, and is helpful sometimes as i have changed vv or vw and there was no difference in juice flavor or vapor output, but after a 'soft' reset (turning it off, then back on) i think it goes to where i wanted it to be power wise. i'm prolly full of the brown stuff and this is all imaginary, but hey, if that's what it takes.............

just ensure your connections are solid. i use a normal Sprint phone charger instead of the one provided which stays in the truck for emergencies.

If it is green and 4.1, you can use it for a day or two and charge again later.

If you plugged into an A/C adapter, what output amps on it? 420 or 500 is not much for these, 1A is better but still takes a while from red.

You bring up a very good point. I actually use a USB wall adapter with a USB hub attached to it to charge multiple devices. I know it's not putting out a full amp when charging, so my MVP 2 takes quite a bit longer to charge.

Also just something to keep in mind - Each time the device is plugged in (even at 100% battery), the charge indicator will turn on and stay on for a little while. It's possible that you might have had a power-flicker in the middle of the night which caused the charge indicator to turn back on for a little while. Either way, if the battery is reading 4.1v - everything should be fine. Personally, I don't think you have anything to worry about with such a great piece of technology :D

I always turn my unit off before charging. Is that the case with you or did you not turn the unit off? I always thought if it was charged while on like a cell phone it stays on once charged. The one thing I never do is let it charge overnight. A battery malfunction could start a fire.

When I get something that has a battery, I charge it first (fully) before using it. It is recommended.

Actually, battery makers/sellers recommend letting it all the way to "dead" before charging a battery. Some say once a month... I do it with my phone. Also turning off completely and then turning it on. I guess it resets things.

Someone on here said that laptop charging is not as good since the laptop doesn't have the same output. I don't know, I'm not a techie. If someone knows, I would appreciate learning.

Short answer: That's right, it's not AS good - as in, it will charge much slower.

In all honesty, I've heard this several times and in my professional opinion (been in IT for over 10 years now), it's a load of crap. Yes it's true that the USB ports on a computer/laptop are not going to put out as much amperage for charging. The typical USB 2.0 port will provide 0.5 amps of power and this degrades with the more devices you have plugged in. But the bottom line is that it will still charge your battery - when vaping while it's charging, it may not be able to keep up and you will see your voltage drop just a bit. But unless you are holding the fire button down the entire time it's charging, it will do just fine.

I've also heard rumors that it can ruin your battery, cause it to explode, etc. Again, all rubbish. USB ports are grounded just as much as a wall outlet. Granted, I'm sure there are those who would disagree with me. Keep in mind that a number of things could go wrong when charging a battery, whether using a wall outlet or a computer USB port. I've been using pass-thru devices for the better turn of the century and I just find it hard to believe that they would exist if they were problematic.

I agree with all of this "what you said."
Only thing that bother me is that "putting wear and tear and a chance of Shorting out the usb port with a cheap cable/charger is worth the risk?"
If my $5 usb charger blows up, I can get another.
Cheers

You are mistaken.

These are rules for NiCad batteries that have MUCH different chemistry than the LiIon batteries we use in vaping.

I suggest you look up rules for charging and discharging LiIon batteries so that you will take appropriate care of your batteries instead of using old battery rules that are decades old.

What battery overcharge protection does a usb port offer?

A USB port will detect power draw in excess of what it allows, and turn the power off.

By the way, my laptop has the best USB ports for charging of anything in my house. I use pass-thrus on it frequently, and charge all my batts through it (laptop plugged in to the wall!). It will charge an "in-the-red" MVP in less than 4 hours.

My desktop has some hi-power ports and some lo-power ports, and I can never remember which is which.
