We need another thread where people (who are still miraculously surviving) admit their lackadaisical, real life battery charging ways.

I don't look at my charger normally unless I need a battery or need to put one on.

Doesn't mean I'm not there for emergencies.

I monitor my charger like my children. From another room while I'm busy, while I sleep, etc.

NO NO NO

Let's be realistic.

Conscious, aware and in the same building will more than suffice.

As long as there is a smoke detector in the room, when these batteries vent it could start a large fire quickly. By the time you smell smoke it could be too late if in a different area.

I have lost a house to fire, being excessively careful is realistic in my opinion.

My floors are all tile, I just sit my charger on the floor when I'm charging.

And I used to be a job coordinator/foreman/fire and water restoration technician.

I dealt with people who lost everything the same way for half a decade.

No need for hyper sensitivity to cripple your friends and acquaintances also.

Dealing with people who lose everything in fire and being the people is not the same thing. Including life!

What does that even mean? Dealt with?

I think sleeping in another room while batteries are charging is (insert some word here) but I didn't judge or make light of the comment. Just because you are careless (or carefree) doesn't mean others should be.

I think you are desensitized not that I'm hypersensitive.

Oh one more thing, your  at having a functional smoke detector in the room the charger is in says a lot about your mentality.

Assume as you will. I'll have you know you're 110% wrong. Been in both shoes. As well as dealing with/for close friends and family too.

What does that even mean? Dealt with?

Just that. Let's be adults here and let this be the last we get emotional and read into something that's not there. It was a major part of my job... dealing with everything you went through... and more... every day... with a level of sympathy and empathy that's incomprehensible unless you've been there, done that. ;)

Let's not self contradict in one breath.

I have a level of experience that backs up what I'm suggesting... and trust me when I say staring at your charger is NOT the norm.

I think you are desensitized not that I'm hypersensitive.

I think it's obvious that a little of both is happening here. Though, I'm also hyper aware. ;)

Someone with my background would NEVER suggest not having a smoke detector ANYWHERE.

Let's try to be adults here. Please.

I assume it because why would someone who has lost everything in fire comment in the manner you did, you would be want others to be careful when dealing with potential fire hazards. You stepped in this thread and basically chastised the person who was smart enough to consciously stay in the room while they charged batteries.

You were insensitive for no reason. I'm 39 years old with three teenagers, I am an adult.

Who said stare at the charger, I said have a smoke detector in the room it's in if your aren't going to be around it. Your response was rolleyes, twice now.

I agree, I'm overly sensitive about my family potentially burning to death because I was careless with something as trivial as charging batteries.

Personally I think you should step back and look at your comments, maybe they came off the wrong way.

Remember this?

Wow, that's a long time to monitor a charger.

My point is if you're not staring at your charger and being paranoid about it, it's not a long time.

You make dinner, feed the family, clean up after, make sure the kids finish their homework, shower and get to bed...

And voila!

You got fresh new batteries all charged up.

Repeat tomorrow and the next day.

Maybe I got the wrong impression on where you were going due to history on similar subjects. Dunno.

If so, I apologize.

For the record... the smoke detector, I thought was a good idea... coupled with an appropriate fire extinguisher.

Ask your local fire department what's appropriate.
