charging batteries with adaptors

Is it ok to charge a battery/cig with an adaptor? As in one manufacturers charger working for another manufacturers battery/cig with the use of an adaptor to make it fit?
a)will it work? b)is it safe?

i'm no electro-head, but the adapters just create circuitry connection, so you can use them for charging as well.

About the only problem I can see is using an eGo/Tornado/Riva charger with a battery that isn't designed for that much current.

Example: charging an 808 battery on an eGo charger with a 510 to 808 adapter

sometimes the thread of the battery will fit but the polarity is reversed and you can fry a batt. so make sure the charger and batt are indeed compatible.
