Right so my Riva (1100) arrived Monday and the charging instructions were quite complicated, charge for 8 hours use for 20 mins then charge another hour - I've got a full time job I've no time for that so just did what I suspect most newbs do charge whilst I learn how to fill, then vape, I did then charge the battery for the eight hours. Now that I have intial 8 hour charge out the way, what is the best way to charge ? Again the instructions were again quite precise charge for three hours even if the light goes green before that, but reading on here I've seen a few posts saying for optimum battery life don't wait till battery about to go charge when about 20% left but how do you even know when that is ? I'm thinking use one battery one day, charge it a couple of hours and use alternate then vape with charged battery and charge other for same time but don't use it again till following morning ? Would this be about right?

Hi Kirsty,

I'm not quite sure how everyone else does it but I can make the following suggestions: 1. NEVER leave battery unattended while charging and 2. Put battery in a kitchen pot or something that can contain a fire.

While I am overcautious there is always a risk with recharging any kind of battery so I am super careful. Just my $.02 :)

Welcome to the ECF!

I was actually going to ask the same questions! My new Riva just came today - my old KR808's are all half dead so I was dying to try it out......I did read the complicated charging instructions but couldn't wait - charged it for about 3 hours and have been happily vaping since. I guess I'll try the "recommended" charging for the other one?

On a side note for anyone thinking about upgrading from a smaller PV, I HIGHLY recommend it.....SO MUCH BETTER!!! I'm so glad I did it cause I was getting a bit discouraged with the lousy performance / battery life of my KR808's
This is gonna work out just fine :)

Well, I'm not a battery expert, but I change my 18650 batteries every afternoon so they are finished charging before I go to bed. I know they don't really need charging as I alternate between 3 PVs every day. However, I know if something unexpected comes up I can go 1 to 2 days on each PV without needing a charge.

For charging the batteries, as soon as the light turns green, it's fully charged & the charger stops charging.

And yes, it is best not to fully drain the batteries.
What the OP (and me) are referring to is the Riva instructions for "first charge".....they want you to charge it for 8 full hours (even if the light is green) use for 20 minutes and then charge again....

Found 'em! They don't make sense to me..... Have never had a battery that said to charge, use a little, charge some more.... Then to time the charge instead of using the light.....

So in case you haven't guessed I didn't do all that.... not sure what that means for my future.... but knowing me I doubt I would do it their way even if I had seen the directions... guess I am not much help here.... good luck and enjoy....

Its all subjective. When the green light is on, it stops charging, no trickle effect. When your battery dies, it flashes at you and auto shuts off. It's not completely dead either. Just dead enough for you not to use it, but perhaps enough to power its own internals to accept charging. I could prove this I'm sure, but not on my money. Charge it, use it, recycle it.
