Hello, I hope somebody can answer this.. I just received 2 Sony vtc5 18650 batteries and put them on the charger. The only charger I have is a trust fire TR-001, pretty basic charger. I've been reading that you don't want to charge them on a "cheap" charger so this has me worried. They've been on the charger now for about 6 hours. Is my charger safe and will it charge these batteries??

Personally, I wouldn't use that charger. It is a bottom-of-the-barrel charger. You've got some of the best batteries available on the market, and charging them with a cheap charger. IMHO, a good quality charger is as important as good quality batteries.

I don't necessarily agree with VapeRev's contentions in the following thread, but they seem to believe that the Sony batteries require the highest quality charger available.

I bought a Nitecore I2 charger from Amazon. They are around $15. It is definitely worth the investment in a good charger. I've seen it work where my batteries will charge fully, then the unit switches to a trickle mode. Unless I remove the batteries as soon as the 3 lights turn green, I never had a situation where the batteries were warm to the touch. I use it for all my batteries. That includes Efest and AW 18350's and Sony VTC5 18650's.

If I were you, get the Nitecore I2 or I4, and put away that trustfire as a backup.

With all that said, even with an intelligent charger, don't be overly comfortable and leave the charger unattended. I never charge my batteries overnight and never put batteries on the charger and leave the house. Also, after the batteries charge, let them rest for a couple hours before use.

Agreed with everyone here.

I use a Efest LUC, and it treats me pretty good. Nitecores around here seem to be top of the line, along with Xtars.

But I tossed my TR-001. Seemed to hate my 18350s and took 8+ hours to charge my 18650s. After a quick disassembly, I knew why and it ust went to the trash.

I think I paid 30 for my LUC, tho I bet you can get it for around 20 on amazon. Xtars are nice aswell ^^
