Chat feature?

Yes, I could see that happening really fast. The poor moderators must have gone nearly insane!!!!
Really? Everyone here seems so cool and I hardly see any flaming going on. 
Of course I am new here but I haven't encountered anyone being rude or snippy with some of the stupid questions I ask!
Maybe it could just be open at a certain time of day or something? Or maybe a couple different times a day? I dunno, I just think it would be cool to have that as a feature. Hey, if ya need a chat mod I'm down! Laid off right now so am online quite a bit!

As Timtam mentioned, we ended up with total chaos when we had the chatroom. Most of the problems were related to:
1) Drunk posters.....you know, the ones who sit around and drink while they're 'socializing'....or come home from a night out and think 'Hmm, maybe I'll go chat for a while'. It has been my experience that chatting while drunk almost always turns out disastrous
2) Yep, flamewars....insults, name calling, swearing....the whole shebang. And you know, it does tend to have a domino effect there. I've never seen a case where one good insult didn't lead to several more....it's just too tempting and people can't seem to step away once they get involved. When we had to start banning members for this, it was decided it really wasn't conducive to the betterment of the forum.
3) With the size of this forum, you could probably have 50-100 members in chat at a time. Unlike posts where you can go in and easily delete an offensive post or delete it for further review, chat moves along rather quickly. The moderation there would need to be extensive....and like 24/7. I do like the idea of members being chat moderators though. Perhpas if SJ ever decides to reinstate it, that would be an option to look into as opposed to the handful of mods we have now trying to keep up with it. Admin is always looking for ways to improve ECF, so you never know!

I think that 99% of the members are "cool", it's the other 1% that I would worry about, they could get a fight going in no time.
I think you would have to have a great many chat moderators....All it takes is one person to set off a fight.

I do my best chatting after a few Long Island Iced Teas, or after a quarter of a bottle of some good scotch.

Jerry DOES seem to have a bad influence on a few of us.
ppl that want to chat could always choose a room off yahoo that stays empty all the time.. so all you have to do is enter any room then type in /join theroomsname:2
then there is no need to ppl to monitor the room just click ignore on ppl starting problems,
