Hello ecf, i have a few 5300MAH "flashlight" batteries my father purchased. They are these exact ones:

2X 18650 3 7V 5300mAh Li ion GTL Red Flashlight Torch Rechargeable Battery | eBay

i know they are 3.00 for two, so im not expecting a yes answer. but currently im using an 18350 "anyvape" tube and keep finding that 800mah is failing me. i have to recharge at least once a day to stay above 15 percent battery.

SO. are these safe? or will they short out my control head? please help! :)

They should be fine...as long as you treat them good the protection circuit in the evic will keep them from going 'splody 'splody

Don't expect the 5300mAh on the side though

Some specs...on the 5000mAh... (blue wrapper, not the red one)
Test / Review: GTL 18650 5000mAh (Blue) | BudgetLightForum.com
Conclusion

The batteries is as expected: Not very useful and with the low capacity they are not even good value for the money.
With unknown and obvious low quality cells in a unprotected battery I will rate these batteries bad.

why wouldn't you?
Always best to use "name brand" batteries...especially since Li Ion is sealed and pressurized...run em too hard, get em too hot and 'splody 'splody!!!

Cost more..but I get my 18650's from here

I guess I wouldn't want to spend all that money on a nice mod and then chintz on the batteries,,,,,

plus, you get what you pay for in the long run,,,,,,,,,decent batteries will run you more,,,,,,,,but will most likely last longer.

are they the right type? By that, I mean are they IMR IF they need to be, etc??

Well first of all there's the price. With just about anything in life there is a correlation between price and quality. How good could they possibly be at less than $1.25 each. Retail.

5300 mAh capacity? Really? I don't know what you will be getting, but it certainly won't be 5300 mAh anything for that price.

They aren't protected.

Believe me, the last thing I would ever buy and put in my PV - right next to my face - is a less than $1.25 "5300 mAh" unprotected battery.

Those batteries are poor quality re-branded non-protected Li Ion batteries. Generic batteries alway have over-inflated mAh ratings to spur sales. Although your mod has built-in protection, you never want to use non-protected Li Ions in a mod. You want high drain IMR batteries for your regulated mod.

Read up on the batteries that we use in mods and which are best for the the application you need: Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected?

Batteries are not created equal. You want one of these high-quality name-brand IMR or hybrid batteries:

There will never be a mod capable of handling a poorly designed battery or incompatible battery for vapers like unsafe batteries during a catastrophic faliure.

AW IMR 18xxx for all the mods I use, folks.

Respect your batterys or get a good facial reconstruction surgeon.
