MVP2 is hard to beat for the $40 you'd pay for one. A lot of members have them and assuming you are OK with the form factor, they are an excellent choice for both new and not-so-new vapers.

I started with a genuine Vision Spinner - I still have them. They are excellent batteries with good quality threading, great run time, variable voltage and all in a slim package that is easy to slip into a pocket. Together with the Twist, they are something I would have no hesitation in recommending. They run around $20 each.

Finally, every vaper should have at least one back up battery, charger and topper so I'd also recommend getting more than one.

For between $60 and $70 you can get an iTaste SVD, two panasonic ncr18650pf batteries, and a Nitecore Intellicharger I2 from FastTech. This is the setup I got last August and I am still using as I type this. For a few dollars less you can get a Vamo setup but I think the SVD is better quality for the cash.

I would rather spend a little extra money for a nice setup but he just wants a new mod for now because he doesn't have much cash
Everyone is probably tired of seeing MVP2 recommendations but it's really a nice, affordable rig in a small package. Variable Voltage, Variable Wattage, even an Ohm meter if he ever wants to warp coils. It's built really well and of course lasts a very long time on a single charge.

The biggest obstacle is how discreet your friend wants to be because it's not a slim cigalike.
