I was putting in my Samsung IMR 18650 battery in my intellicharger today and a rather large fireball began to burst from the positive end of the battery as soon as it was in the charger. I unplugged it as fast as I could.

The battery looked only the slighest bit worn on the positive end so this could have been completely avoided.

If you doubt it, properly dispose of it! A $15 battery isn't worth an ER visit or your life!

i would like to know how this has happened. are you sure there wasnt a stray piece of metal that caused a short circuit?
i would also like to know what swindler charged you 3x the price for a samsung 18650.
samsung is INR chemistry, not IMR. perhaps that has something to do with it and the way it was "charged".
maybe the charger was faulty. maybe it had been damaged. maybe the charger has an output voltage selector that was mis-selected. (?)
maybe the top of the battery got damaged and was no longer insulated.
