I don't have enough info on that mod. If it will read the resistance before firing, etc. Some mods constantly poll the coil resistance, some only when firing button is pressed. In theory the mod will not fire if you have a shorted coil, but the risk is all on you. I build on my mod, but I am very aware of risks. just barely blip it, and then note the resistance. If it is in the safe zone for your mod, then short fire it.

If the stick has a display that shows watts, resistance, etc, go ahead, but if it has no display I would use the IPV to test. And the stick (maybe I'm wrong here) does not let you adjust wattage or voltage, right? If not, use the IPV and turn the watts down, don't need the same wattage you would vape at.

Drop in coils should not be dry fired to see if they work. All you'll do is burn the cotton and ruin it. The mod will read the resistance but there's no need to do that before properly priming the coil head and filling the tank, giving time for the wick to soak. Start at low wattage after it's been sitting a while and slowly turn the wattage up a few watts st a time until you like the vape. That is your sweet spot and may or may not be within the"recommended " range. Usually it's lower so don't worry that part.

Drop in coils????
Welcome and glad you joined.
Just a vape term meaning installation of a coil within a tank. The atomizer typically consists of a number of circular wire coils and a wick generally encased in a screw-in "prebuilt coil" package. If you make and thread wick your own coils, the term may also apply. More often than not, the term mostly means change the wick (most folks use RBA's and are more likely to use this slang)within the coil because the wick goes bad before a coil.

Go back and look, I was not inquiring about the term. I was questioning the advice about drop in coils...
on an RTA! After re reading this mess, I cannot figure out what the hell tank/coil he is fooling with.
