"That means they would be moved behind the counter of retail stores with sale to minors off limits. Adults would be prohibited from smoking e-cigarettes in virtually all of indoor Chicago except private homes and vehicles, hotel rooms designated for smoking and at least 10 feet away from building entrances. The city would also license e-cigarette dealers."

It's that last part that really bothers me. All over IL new vape shops are popping up every week. I know Chicago needs the money, but I think that they are hurting the people trying to do something good and not smoke.

Its always been 100% about the money and 0% about your or anyone elses health. Hate to sound like a broken record but its the truth.

Chicago Mayor (and Obama’s former Chief of Staff) Rahm Emanuel and two City Council members plan to introduce bill to ban e-cig use in all workplaces despite many health benefits for users and no risks for nonusers.
City Eyeing Crackdown On E-Cigarettes « CBS Chicago

I posted the following on another thread in the General News section at
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/media-general-news/495383-chicago-doesnt-look-good.html

Now is the best time for all vapers and vendors in Chicago to contact their Alderman urging opposition to bill (that hasn't been introduced yet).

Chicago's City Council is comprised of 50 Alderman who represent 50 different Wards, with a list of all 50 Wards and Alderman at
http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/about/wards.html

All 50 Alderman's e-mail addresses have the same format as below, and it would be helpful if someone took a few minutes to make comma and semi colon separated e-mail lists of all 50 e-mail addresses (so folks can blast e-mails to all 50 Aldermen at the same time).
ward01@cityofchicago.org, ward02@cityofchicago.org, ward03@cityofchicago.org, ward04@cityofchicago.org, etc.

Chicago residents can locate their Alderman by going to
https://webapps3.cityofchicago.org/S...oWardLookup.do
and a Google map with all 50 Wards is at
City of Chicago :: Google Map for All 50 Wards

Please note that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel used to be Obama's Chief of Staff, and the timing of this might be coordinated with FDA's soon to be proposed e-cig regs.

Also note that Emanuel and various Aldermen are already pushing a $.75/pack cigarette tax hike in Chicago, so the Aldermen are probably hearing from lots of smokers who are upset about the tax hike, which would make cigarette taxes in Chicago even higher than in New York City, and which would further increase cigarette smuggling and tax evasion in Chicago.

BTW Female Aldermen are also called Alderman (not Alderwomen nor Alderpersons).

Please disregard the inaccurate comments posted previously on this thread claiming this legislation (which would ban vaping everywhere smoking is banned in Chicago) isn't really about e-cigs, and that its instead about greedy government wanting to make money.

While the bill to increase cig taxes by $.75/pack is clearly about generating more tax revenue, the bill to ban vaping in all workplaces is a huge threat to the future of vaping in Chicago, and must be vigorously and quickly opposed. If Chicago licenses e-cig retailers, it would be the same amount that cigarette retailers now pay (probably no more than $200/year), which isn't a big deal.

I guess it's easier to go after law abiding citizens with an ecig than frisking hoodlums looking for weapons. Chicago has bigger problems than ecigs, but money talks as gang warfare walks.

This is the second message in this thread bashing Chicago.

I don't claim to know anything about the undoubtedly complex nuances of the demographics of the Mountains of NC or Knoxville as I do not live there.

I'd recommend you do the same for Chicago.

Instead, lets focus on the problem at hand - the proposed vaping ban that, if passed, would be the largest city in America to do so (as far as I know). That's a significant problem.

I don't see this as bashing Chicago, truth hurts sometimes. .

The Rahm Father is mad because he didn't get his full 75 cent a pack tax hike. As much as I dont want to see this pass, I think it will. He's not done sticking his hands in everyones pockets yet.

Chicago Mayor (and Obama’s former Chief of Staff) Rahm Emanuel and two City Council members introduce bills that would discourage smokers from quitting and protect Big Tobacco by banning e-cig use in all workplaces (despite no evidence of harm), requiring e-cigs to be sold/displayed on retail shelves contractually controlled by Altria, Reynolds and Lorillard. Despite IL laws already banning tobacco and e-cig sales to minors, a third bill would ban menthol cigarette sales near schools.

To lobby for extremist legislation, Chicago Public Health Director Bachara Choucair falsely accuses retailers of unlawfully selling e-cigs to 14 year olds, falsely claims e-cigs are addicting children, falsely claims use of smokefree e-cigs is “smoking”. Oh the irony - An article in my hometown paper today has the headline 'Mounting woes from refining byproduct' (Cleveland Plain Dealer, p.A12). The article discusses the growing problem of 'petcoke' which comes from petroleum refining. Apparently huge mounds of this stuff sit in residential neighborhoods in southeast Chicago and when the winds blow, so does this stuff. The article states, '..petcoke is not classified hazardous, it contains heavy metals and inhaling the fine particles can cause respiratory problems.' I would hope that the 'powers that be' in Chicago will exert just as much zeal on protecting its citizens from this toxic 'second-hand' byproduct as they do from that exuded from vaping. Oh wait, there aren't any big-money interests attached to vaping like there are to petroleum - tsktsk..
