I know most of you here are likely not from Chicago, and I'm not trying to start any kind of e-war here, but I'm glad they didn't get the Olympics.

Mayor Daley is a joke and while it may have created jobs in the short term, Chicago simply doesn't have the infrastructure to handle something this big and has far bigger issues that need to be addressed. I wonder if the IOC caught wind of the nice beating death of a young man that may have had some hope to overcome the cesspool that Chicago has become lately. And I mean no offense to those living in Chicago. It was (and in some ways still is) a great city, but like many other major cities it has some major problems... but worse than many it sometimes seems. Not Olympic material in my opinion.

My congrats to Rio!

As a student of DePaul University in the city, I get to bare witness to the horrible, horrible infrastructure that plagues our city. The CTA hardly runs on time, and nearly all of our expressways are ripped to shreds. I-88 is the worst of them all, with I-294 being a very close second.

While I'm sure that we all would have eventually enjoyed some minor infrastructure improvements, the six-year construction time would never have been worth it. We would have disgraced the Olympics. There is absolutely no question as to why we got voted out first.

I hope this is true and I'm from Illinois and I'm glad. Most of the people didn't want it, the big shots did so there are a lot of other people happier right now.
This state is having financial problems and didn't need this added on top of it.

Sure there was big bucks to be made but doubtful enough made by the state to pay for it and then keep it up afterwards.

Heh, I lived in a city that "hosted" the olympics, simple answer is NEVER let those clowns near your city.

Also lived in chicago for 7 years, simple answer NEVER let yourself be caught there.

I now live in a slightly less corrupt city who did that to themselves way back when it might have meant something.

Sure, every city has crime, probably LA is the only place that might outdo chitown.

Danes certainly were not impressed with TOTUS, to be kind..

I for one am so happy that Chicago did not get chosen to host the 2016 games. What a nightmare that would have been! Can you imagine Lake Shore Drive attempting to handle the traffic? The CTA stinks now, how would they have handled the huge influx of people that would have come in for the games?

I have worked downtown for over 25 years and can not even imagine the circus that it would have been with the games in town!

Perhaps now our illustrious mayor will stop hoarding the money that he got from the parking meter sale among other things and fix the damm streets!

I would've liked the opportunity to have the Olympics nearby, some events were even going to be in Northwest Indiana. I'm glad South America is getting their first Olympics but, contrary to popular ECF opinion, I think getting the Olympics would have been a good thing for Chicago and surrounding communities. And it would've helped with other things in the area that are stalled due to a lack of federal support, like the 3rd airport. And attacking the POTUS for taking 1.5 days to support getting the Olympics on US soil is kind of ridiculous. The leaders of every country in the running were there supporting their city's bid.

The way China has been buying up our debt ...

That gave me an idea... One quick way we can pay off our debt completely... We give China the whole state of California. After that, the only change we would need to do is remove 1 star from the US Flag.

Nowe before the flames begin. In my plan, all those who think like me could move into one of the remaining states. All commie-pinko-leftist-hollywood-elite types, WELCOME TO YOUR UTOPIA!
