A couple months ago i bought a chinese ody clone. I payed 50 bux for it and was truely disappointed. It just sat in my vape junk box and caused regret every time i looked at it.. until one day I came up with an idea and pursued it until I finally found a good rebuild to make this once shameful waste of money into my everyday vape rba of choice. I tried many solutions and sometimes gave up for weeks at a time. this final build is the product of much trial and error, lots of wick, and even more wire, but here it is in all its glory, the Chody Redemption mod. Also my first tutorial write up. =]

So this is the model I bought and i dont know if this will work for any other oddy clones but this one.

Ingredients: the guts from 1 vivi nova:

remove the metal disk from the rubber, discard the wic, and push out the center pin like so..

Here are our key players:
004.jpg

now heres the fun part.
remove the top by cutting the center post at the airholes. you want a clean cut from hole to hole. also sand and round off the edges after you've cut your post. this part will push against the white rubber grommet in the base of the ceramic holder. you dont want to ruin it or you'll have slurp and leak issues. also there are 2 rings on the center post that need to be taken off. to do this, i first removed the top of the center post, then i placed it on a small screwdriver so that it could spin freely, then i took a dremel with a grinder bit and applied it to my center post allowing it to spin on the screwdriver while grinding at the same time. it was easy to watch the unwanted parts disappear as i grinded them away. make sure to leave the slope/grade where the big ring came off. dont smooth out the post. you need that to keep your o-ring on the bottom. your finished center post should look something like this:
005.jpg

next we need to modify the little metal circle thing. our goal is to turn this little ring into a small washer. if you already have a small washer, you can skip this step. here is the method i used: first start by making slices all the way around it with a pair of dykes to many little tabs taking caution not to break the ring. then snap off the tabs with your fingers or a pair of plyers.
006.jpg

this ring is pretty soft once you start messing with it so be careful. once you have it kinda cleaned off, you wanna really clean it off. i used a dremel with a grinder attatchment with the spinning on a screwdriver technique. you also wanna bore out the center hole a little bit so that it fits on the post. i just stuck it on the end of a pair of scissors and gave it a few turns. heres my failed and successful efforts:
007.jpg

Alright now we have all our parts so we can go ahead and assemble the guts of your chody.
the parts go together in this order..
008.jpg

now heres where i spent many hours failing to come up with this..
I took a little bit of wire insulation off of another wire and slid it onto my NR wire. this prevents the wire from shorting out against the ceramic housing.
009.jpg

Here's the assembled guts.. notice the insulator on the NR wire.. you can also see that you wrap your wire around the center post, between the nut and homemade washer.
010.jpg

now we've drasticly increased our air flow. heres a before and after:
011.jpg

increased airflow is sexy! and bow ties are cool! next step is to make larger the side air holes:
012.jpg

i took my trusty dremel and this time put on the cutting disk. caution: dont mess up the threads!! now cut into those holes and make them grow!! be sure to use safety glasses for this part B] (<---emote with safety glasses hahha)
013.jpg

now that was pretty messy but i didnt really care because this area is not visible when in use, however im sure that this part can be done alot easier if you actually remove the bottom piece from the rest of the choddy... which i had to do anyway to clean out the metal flakes and clean up the holes. i just stuck a small screw driver in the holes to clear out the scraps and used a wire brush to clean it up. re-assemble and youre good to go.
heres another pic of both holes.

So there you have it folks.. between this rebuild and the wick building techniques ive found here on ECF i am really enjoying my chody. I get nice full clouds of warm flavorfull vapor.. it is now all that i had hoped it'd be.. hopefully if you have made the same purchace and found the same regret, then you too can do the "chody redemption mod" and finally enjoy your purchase like i do.

Best of luck to you..
cheers

Wow man, you know they sell washers at home depot? :D

somebodys got jokes.. hahaha. all good. it was kinda a challenge to myself to only use the vivi parts. also i just didnt want to buy anything extra to do this mod. i already paid too much for it in the first place!

I'm not crazy about the "mystery metal" aspects of that build, but you definitely were inventive in getting it going like that.
what mystery metals? all additional metals were taken from a vivi nova. since a vivi nova is made for vaping, wouldnt it be safe to assume that its parts are made of metals safe for vaping? speaking of mystery metals, i hadnt thought of it prior, but i think that that is another good reason to not use just anything you find around the house.

Vivis are "mystery plated metal" devices. All these non-stainless plated devices are like that. They're likely chrome-plated brass, but who can be sure with Chinese manufacturers making these things in bulk to maximize profits? Brass can contain lead (it usually does, but in small quantities for things like water transfer). There's a danger of lead being present in stainless steel as well, but at least I've seen things like the AGA-T tested for presence of lead with negative results.

Wow dude! I was a little puzzled by the washer fab also, but then again I can walk to the Hardware Store from my house. I do understand that tenacious feeling one gets after coughing up $$ on something that ends up not even a good paperweight.

I have two of these Choddy's. I call the "Together Best Cooperation" version a Choddy because it is NOT a Terminator. I payed about $37 for the first one (w/ clear window) from a site that called it a Terminator (darn it!). This was before forums caught up on the info about fakes of fakes on these. I should have taken the warning on Stormy's, stating "Beware of Fakes".

Still got the first one to vape for awhile & can't say it was a total waste because it got me started building Oddyseus style. But the center post would be a problem as I knew as soon as I assembled first time. Crazy me, I bought a second one for 24.95 knowing it was the Choddy this time thinking I would get some more parts and among two would have enough parts to build one good one. NOPE. The second one was even crappier and actually had different dimensions for the mouthpiece, and thus different top cap parts. LAME

This ...... me off, enough that I really disregard most of the Chinese stuff until solid reviews convince me otherwise.

Still... tenacity... I too felt shamed every time I saw the Choddy's in the "vape-no-good" pile. If only the center pin was OK, this thing would vape like a Golden Greek while still being Choddy.

I made a center pin from small metric Bolt, Nuts, Washers. Electrically it was perfect, but no airflow, duh. Now I was vested... got 3/32 Brass Tube & a 3-48 die. Vised the tubes and cut threads along several inches. Then dremel cut a piece long enough to be a center post. This allowed me to thread nuts on it. Using some nuts, washers, the original Choddy gasket, and a gasket I got at the HW store (that seals the Choddy base perfectly). Now it does vape like a Oddy.

My next plan is to make a new center post, using same method, but this time long enough to go down into the body of a China GG MOD. I have one that was ruined actually by the Choddy. Seems the SS 510 threads on the Choddy are cut poorly making it prone to cross threading on some devices - definitely on the Chi Chi. Didn't realize it was threading that way because it felt smooth enough but that was just the brass is so soft on the Chi Chi. So my running the center pin thru the Choddy, down into the MOD, directly to the battery, will fasten the Choddy sans 510 threads. it will be a HYBRID! I'll call it "how to make two turds into one bigger turd". Seriously tho, it will make a great "take out MOD" I don't care about loosing or breaking.

So feeling the kinship, I'll try to get some photos up on this thread to share my findings. It's so funny "Choddy Redemtion". I was thinking about how I'd title a post if I shared this technique. That one covers it!
