Honestly so much goes into the making of a vape, you have to look at more than Only the chipset, although yes it is important.
For example I LOVE teslacigs as a board, and as a company. They make a wide range of devices and designs and their internals are solid. I still love my Tesla Steampunk nano and it was one of my first vapes. I bought the later more powerful Punk and hated it. It seemed to be designed to be heavy and cut my hands. I sold it after vaping it like 5 times because I knew I'd never enjoy it. Overall design matters too. I love Innoken products and they are solid mods, I have a Proton I can't get enough of, an Eleaf Invoke which is tiny, but great. I also like Geekavpe mods and have a Legend as well as smaller things, a few internal battery setups and some tube mods.
Durability matters, there are certain modmakers I avoid because I'm hard on gear and I know I'll break it like Joytech and well, Smok. I have had mostly good experiences with Smoant although my Cylon got warrantied because of a known screen issue.
Some of the DNA mods are rock solid but you do pay a premium.
Also, everyone has their story of the "next great mod" that wasn't-- for them. It's really about finding what YOU like and what works for you, but the board could be perfection itself and the mod unvapable (to you) like me and the Punk. .I still love Teslacigs but not EVERY mod is for everyone, etc. Design, handfeeel, it matching your vaping style (mine is MTL and also to DROP THINGS a bunch) all play a role.
Good luck choosing. Chances are (at least at the present time) it won't be your LAST mod, so yes do due diligence, but if something is just calling to you it's okay to pay attention.
