I just snagged a Chuck from the classifieds and it come with 2 chargers, one for 3.7v 48650 batteries and one for 3.0v RCR123a batteries. Are these the protected ones? Can I get the batteries at Radio Shack? If not , where. Also, if these are not the batteries I need, what is and where do I get them? I'd like to have the batteries by the time Chuck arrives so I can start vaping ASAP. Thanks and sorry for a question that must have been asked many, many times.

ok you can vape at 3.7V with a single 18650 battery
or at 6V using stacked 3V 16340 (CR123a) size...

finding them in a physical store would be tough and you'd pay an arm and a leg...
I'd go onto lighthound.com and get these:

AW 18650 Protected 2200 mAh Rechargeable Lithium Battery
and these as far as the 3V goes (their LiFePo4 so safe chemistry and dont need protection circuit)
AW LiFePO4 3 Volt Lithium Rechargeable Battery

if you really wanted to you could also stack 2 3.7V 16340 (CR123a) size to vape at 7.4V with these:
AW IMR16340 550 mAh IMR CR123 size LiMN Rechargeable Lithium Battery

Lighthound would probably be the fastest to get to you really...probably about 3 days...so if you ordered them today probably on Mon

madvapes, com is a one stop shop for ya. They got all the batteries and chargers. All their batts are protected. If you're gonna use it at 6 volts I'd pop over to Ikenvape and order a couple of high voltage attys too. I just got my e-mail from Jeff that my Chuck is in the mail! Guess that makes us both a couple of chuckleheads.

Maybe post more information on the batteries you got? The brand is a good starting point. You can check on Amazon for them and it will tell you if they are protected or not. Mine say protected right on them. I've got the Tenergy 18650 says protected right on them.
I don't have my 3.0v with me right now but I know they are protected.

*sigh* you know I like madvapes.....but *fire batteries really are crap and unfortunately that seems to be all that madvapes carries..

There is so much more to batteries than just saying they're protected....and just what quality is that protection?..

I have to say I agree about the madvapes thing in a way but only because I've read a lot about the batteries from them not working out but that was a few months ago, I can't say about now. However, there are MANY places to get batteries from.

I haven't had any issues with my Tenergy batteries.

and unfortunately those batteries linked aren't a very good choice either...

and the Tenergy 18650.....that's what I mean right there by all protection not being equal....

spend the money...get GOOD...trustable batteries instead of cheaping out on them

Oh, I have no problems spending money :) I will try the ones you posted earlier.
I only got what I got from multiple recommendations. I'm easy like that.

ok look at those 3V tenergy LiFePo4 look what it says under the heading max drain rate <550mA
know what the Amp draw is on a 510 atty?....or a cartomizer?
the bad news is that it's way more than .55A (550mA)....like 4 to 5 times that....way overstressing the battery...

and the Tenergy 18650?... I imagine we're talking these? Li-Ion 18650 3.7V 2600mAh rechargeable battery Flat Top FULLY PROTECTED with PCB Lithium Ion

they have a PCB for over voltage and undervoltage... but no mention of any thermal protection, short circut protection, over discharge protection....which are way more critical in our aplications but that overvoltage/undervoltage PCB is enough for them to be able to write protected on the battery

Beecee...honestly I'm not trying to come across as rude...though I'm sure it sounds that way...I just wish people really understood the batteries that they're using...

bottom line is that all batteries are not created equal in their protection...or their drain rating...
and for us to be as safe as possible with what we're using we should be looking at truely fully protected batteries as far as Li-Ions go....and batteries where their max discharge rating is above the amp draw we're throwing at them in either a Li-Ion or a safe chemistry like LiFePo4 or LiMN...

As far as that goes there's really only a handfull of batteries..
several 18650 (these are really where you have to look at quality of protection) mostly...

and 2 3V LiFePo4 CR123a size (and one of them is brand brand new on the market) for 6V
and 1 3.7V LiMN highdrain CR123a size for 3.7V or stacked for 7.4V

lots of times people just think that the more mAh the better the battery is and that's not always the case

EDIT: as far as protection goes... lets look at what happens as far as most battery failures go...battery is overdischarged (amp draw exceeds max drain of the battery) which stresses it and causes it to get hot..too often and the battery can go into thermal runaway...which causes them to vent gas (and then Li-Ions vent flame too) when the rupture.. fully protected batteries have a PTC which vents when the heat or pressure are too high and seperates the poles of the battery killing thermal runaway...and the PCB trips when the amp drain exceeds the amp draw on the battery by too much shutting the battery down there too..
so the right selection of a fully protected Li-Ion cell there really shouldn't be any real chance of catastrophic battery failure..
