thanks so much for the speedy reply. do you mind me just asking you some questions? i've been trawling through the threads and get myself so confused! i have a fair idea from pictures how big both chucks are. and i'm fairly sure 510 attys can be used on them.

OK, I'll do my best (and others WILL chime in, just slow tonight)....
Chucks come with whatever atty connector you want on it, so just make sure to request the 510 when ordering.
Batteries: I don't know if AA here is different than AA there but we can forget them b/c the Chuck doesn't run off AAs. Standard AAs put out 1.2v and as such will not power a Chuck. With a small Chuck you run at 3.7v and the large Chuck can be run at 3.7v, 6v, or 7.4v. Depending upon your needs/desires you might be fine with 3.7v as a lot of people are. Personally, I find 3.7v doesn't cut it for me b/c I want more heat and throat hit.
To run at 3.7v the Chuck uses - 18650 like shown here: Protected 18650 Battery, 3000 mah
You can also run at 6volts by using two CR123's like shown here: Protected 16340/RCR123A 3.0 V Lithium Ion Battery
To compare battery run time look at the mAh rating of the battery (bigger the number longer it'll last between charges). An 18650 (2400mAh or 3000mAh) generally lasts most people 2 days between charges. The CR123's are rated at only 880mAh (and even though there's two, you don't and the numbers together since they're doubling the voltage, not the run time - so 880mAh) which will last ~6hours.
Keep in mind different people vape differently, one persons heavy vaping is another person light vaping so battery life really varies from person to person.
Protected batteries: These include a protection circuit built-in to the battery to prevent overcharge & undercharge issues. Some unprotected batteries, when misused, have been known to explode/discharge - not good. My suggestion is to ALWAYS use protected as it's more user friendly, do you HAVE to? Nope, but I'd reccommend it! Both the batts I linked are protected (keep in mind if it doesn't stated "Protected" it's probably not). Lots of sellers to buy batteries from, I liked that site b/c I've personally had good service from them but there's certainly other (hopefully closer to you?) places.
One last thing, if you're going to go the high voltage route (anything above 3.7v is considered HV) you should get some HV atomizers as the higher voltage can/will shorten the life of standard attys. If you're just going the 3.7v route, stock 510s are fine.

thanks so much for taking the time to help me! so that batteries obviously slide into the chuck? this is why i thought they tool standard AA batteries. i'll have a look at the sites you've recommended.

DealExtreme probably has the cheapest prices on batteries. Most people here don't bother with them because of the long shipping time -- they're in China. As you're in Australia, they might be as quick as ordering from the U.S. Just search for the battery size you want and make sure you get the "protected" ones.

And i have yet to kill off a 18650 3000 mah but i do change after one day as i like optimal performance
Whatever you get batt wise a good charger is trustfire tr001 as it can charge both the 18650 and the 16340 and several others so you dont need two or more charger's cluttering up

thanks guys. all these numbers, mah and volt thingies just make my head swirl! i'm a girl and not into volts etc...LOL. that's boy stuff. i just wanna vape easily with no dramas. i wonder if anyone would be kind enough to make a list of things i'd need to purchase to go with the little chuck? also a link as to where i could order said things?

if you don't already have an atomizer, you should get one according to the type of connector you ask jeff to give you. after you get the atomizer of your choice, your battery options are 16340s or 18350s. Make sure you get protected

The #16340 refers to the nominal/approximate dimensions (16mm diameter x 34mm length, the 0 refers to the shape - round). CR123's/16340's are available in both 3.0v and 3.7v varieties as well as protected and unprotected. Make sure you get the 3.7v variety and I'd recommend the protected ones.

You won't find a protected 18350 anywhere but MadVapes. I spent a couple of days looking. (I did find one wholesaler that sells them in lots of 500+.)
I just ordered a Little Chuck. (I'm also not interested in 5 or 6 volt vaping.) You will need:
16340 batteries (aka CR123A). Make sure they're 3.6 or 3.7 volts, not 3.0. The Little Chuck uses one at a time so you only need 2 (so you can charge one while using the other.) I ordered 3 to have a security blanket. (When you have a mod that uses 2 batts, you need to keep them in pairs, but that's not a factor here.) ETA: Or 18350 batteries.

That's it. You can order your Little Chuck with a fitting for a 510, 801 or 901 atomizer. If you want to use different types of atomizers you can buy adapters. If you order the 510, you can get adapters for both of the others from Jeff for $5 when you order. (The 901 connector works with cartomizers.)

Did you ever get your Chuck? I want 1 but I too am not sure what to buy. Is The Chuck just the holder for the batt? You can't get everything you need for it on their website? Are the links below good battery & charger options? I don't understand all the volt talk either. I think I need the chuck, adapter for 801 ( I have 801 atty.), charger & the batteries. I want safe protected batts. even though I still don't all the way know what that means or what lithium means (yes, I'm that stupid.) All I know is I want something w/good hit, vapor, & lasts @ least 1 day w/out having to recharge.

Ok, the Chuck is a lot like the batteries you probably already have. You screw your atomizer and cartridge onto it and vape away. The reason the Chuck and other mods exist is to solve one major downside to the E-cig, the battery life. With the 18650 you are looking at a good 2 days on one freshly charged battery. There are also other little bonuses like for example a li-on battery like that charges over 3.7 volts initially so you are getting a little more power to the atty, which translates to more vapor/flavor. There is also the option for 6 volts but for simplicity's sake and my lack of fondness for typing I'll leave that up to one of the others.
Yes, basically the Chuck is just the holder for the battery. But, as jctennis said, the batteries are a lot better than the standard ones that come with your kit.
Once you buy your Chuck, you won't need to buy stock batteries again and you can keep the ones you have for "emergency" backup.
You can buy a Chuck made to fit a 510, an 801 or a 901 atomizer. If you want to use more than one type of atomizer, you need adapters. Jeff carries adapters that will let you use an 801 or 901 atomizer or a cartomizer on a 510 Chuck. If you buy the 801 or 901 Chuck, you can buy adapters elsewhere.

You buy the batteries and a charger from a battery site (or Mad Vapes) and you buy your atomizers, carts and liquid wherever you want.
I bought 4 of the AW LiMN 16340s for my Little Chuck. I also bought a Screwdriver on sale to tide me over until my Chuck comes. It uses the same batteries and I'm going through them pretty fast. They're lasting about 4-5 hours each, but that's a lot better than the 45 minutes the stock batteries for a 510 last.
And don't feel stupid -- only a small percentage of the people around here had jobs or hobbies that made all this stuff easy for them to understand. (I knew what lithium is, but four months ago I had no idea that they used it in batteries.) The rest of us are learning as we go along. The people on this forum (and their posts) are a great resource.
