The Ego will give you excellent battery life (especially for it's size), however, I suggest getting a small battery mod like a Protege or BB for a couple reasons.

1. Ego batterys are $22 a piece. OUCH. A 14500 battery for the protege is about $3-5.

2. 510 and Ego batterys put out 3.0-3.1 volts to the atty. Standard Li-ion batteries put out 3.7v (4.2v when fully charged). So, again, if you go with any other singe battery mod (outside of the Ego), it will give you more vaper and a stronger throat kick.

Also, if you do end up getting a protege, they come with a universal 3.7v charger so you will be able to charge those huge 18650 batts when you decided to pick up a Chuck. ;)

From what I've seen on this forum, it seems that both units have a lot of fans. The biggest difference I see is that the Protege seems to have a lot of complaints about bad switches, poor customer service, and inoperable units. Just as many say they have had no problems at all. The protege looks really nice, and I like the idea of the big button, though. Despite this being the internet, I find that if you find a complaint enough times, its at least true some of the time. Speaks to me of quality control problems more than anything.

The chuck seems to have some rabid fans and nothing but good things to say about customer service even from those who don't like the Chuck. Only downside I see is that it might not be quite as sexy and the bitty button, but no complaints of it not working. I'm assuming you might need a high voltage atty to use the 7.2 volt option? Dunno.

I don't own either, yet, I'm still pretty new, myself, and I just dropped $3k on another hobby this week... so I have to wait a bit longer before I buy something new. =) I plan on giving the Chuck a shot. I'd like to try the Protege, but am very hesitant to do so.

I have bought 3 chucks. That is not saying much. But considering i have many years of electrical experience and have made many mods for my self and friends. The 18650 battery is superior in every way and the solid brass construction of the chuck makes it the hands down winner. Everyone talks about high voltage devices. But the attys are made to work on 3.7v delivering amperage is the key. 3.7 volt with a 510 atty. Is perfect for me.Thick and consistent vapor for 2.5 days on one 18650 battery is astounding. the only drawback to the chuck is that you have to wait for 3 weeks to a month to get it. also you will get some funny looks. I think, most people think its a crack pipe. The fact that you can have a device like this and dont have to have a lathe soldering iorn or engineering degree is fantastic.

At this point, I'm pretty sold on the chuck. Just have to wait a bit before I buy it. Gonna try the 801 and get the 510 adapter as well. I've heard well of both, and I'll try the sleeve for 6 volts in case I want to try that as well. Altogether, sounds great, and I don't want to risk the possible problems with the protege. It'd be different if I could hold and test it in person, I suppose, and there was a person to go to directly to get things resolved. The chuck just seems to have that much better of a reputation.
