I think you're onto a good cleaning method for gunked attys. It's talked about on ECF often. I've moved from doing long cleaning rituals to rinsing my attys used each day in hot water before bedtime, blowing out the water and they're ready to go in the morning. It works better for me than using a sonic cleaner, vodka/PGA or hot vinegar baths. I haven't lost an atty since starting the quick daily maintenance. I read about it here and sure am grateful for that advice. Hope you get your gunk gone from your attys :)

I usually rinse with hot water and then flush with 91% iso. It's a lot cheaper than everclear, and once it's dried out the miniscule amounts of iso remaining aren't going to hurt (your liver can handle tiny volumes of iso). I only clean my atty about once a week.

I think denture cleaner is a good idea but it's too much hassle for me. The upside to using alcohol is it dries quickly and I've heard that water drying on the wick can cause it to stiffen up and wick poorly. I'm cheap and a bit lazy, so use everclear if it's a reasonable option for you!
