Cleaning batteries?

I saw this mentioned weeks ago but now cant find the thread. I have 1 auto battery that got some juice in it, it still works but the draw is much stiffer than it was. Is there a proper way to clean them without damaging the battery?

I've been using a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol hasn't blown anything up yet.

cleaning the holes and the inside with a pin worked great, back to normal now, thanks
