I have an ashtray on my coffee table where I toss my used carts. When it gets full, I like to wash them, put them all back together, refill, and cap. Then for the next few days, all I have to do is grab one and pop it on.

Because they are tiny, even my penstyle carts I would call small, it is hard to get soapy water inside them, get them rinsed, and even harder to get them to dry quickly. I used to try to sit them upright on a paper towel to drain, but that is like playing with tiny, round dominoes.

The other night I took the carts apart and took the stuffing out (set that aside) and put both pieces in a tupperware with a lid. I added a couple drops of Palmolive and some very hot water - then I shook it around a bit. Then I poured them out into a colander and repeated a couple of times with just water. Now for the drying - I put a couple wrinkled up paper towels in the tupperware then put the cart pieces in and shook it like crazy. The agitation gets all the water out of the carts and the towel absorbs it. After air drying for just a couple of minutes they were perfectly dry!

The cart stuffing (blue foam) I put directly in the colander and sprayed with hot water for a nimute or two.. The water pressure compresses them and gets every last bit of juice out. There is not even a smell to them. I roll them up in a paper towel and squeeze them dry. Then I put them all back together.

In less time than it takes to smoke and analog, I have a bunch fresh, clean carts ready to refill for the week.

I realize that an easier method of cleaning carts is not a pressing problem for most people - but I say, any little thing that makes life a bit easier is a good thing.

I've found an even simpler method of cleaning my carts.

Step 1. Drip on atty

Step 2. Use blank cart until you drop it on the floor (possibly losing it to the dark areas of the unknown beneath the desk) or have chewed on it to much.

Step 3. Abandon all hope (if lost under desk) or toss in trash if chewed on too much.

Step 4. Get new cart.

:D

Seriously though... good process.. around here all tips, no matter how trivial they seem, tend to end up helping someone. ;)
