cleaning coils

i'm sure this topic has been discussed over and over but i havent been able to find exactly the answers i'm looking for.
how often is it that coils should be cleaned?
i keep hearing that a 90% alcohol should be used.
and last but not least why isnt isopropyl alcohol not recommended ?

coils dont last forever.

you can clean them proactively to ensure they stay relatively clean when you use them. shake some hot water through the clearo for a bit dump rise and repeat. if you choose the dry burning route, then prepare to see your face morph through many shades of disgust.

i just pump and dump and hope no coils end up pregnant. ive never used rubbing alcohol because the smell grosses me out

What kind of device are u using? For rebuildables i just pull the wick out and dry burn and rinse in water. For tanks you can try everclear instead of isopropyl. Some juices actually have ethyl alcohol in them anyway

But in my experience cleaning tanks is sort of a mixed bag. If saving $ is your goal, start rebuilding. It is surprisingly easy and youtube is your best source on how to do it

Everyone has a different method they prefer for cleaning. Search youtube on how to clean your device and find what works best for you.

I believe that isopropyl alcohol can degrade plastic or rubber gaskets and washers. When I use alcohol I use cheap vodka.

I clean my iclears and kanger pt's pretty much when I notice a decline in performance. Usually it's a much tighter draw; sometimes a drop in flavor. I'd guess I normally get 3-5 tanks use, depending on the liquid.

My routine is to take em apart, rinse with warm water, towel dry just a little (carefully so as not to dislodge anything), dryburn, and then soak in vodka at least a couple of hours. Then rinse, let sit overnight, and good to go.

Sounds like a lot of effort but if I can time it so I clean 5 or 6 at one time, it takes about 20 minutes and then I can forget about it for a couple of weeks. Not too bad.

And, pretty sure you can get away with just rinsing most of the time, if you don't want to go thru all those steps, though watching all that gunk burn off when dry burning makes me think it's worthwhile.

I've been using 5 iclears and 2 pt minis with original heads for 4 months with no noticeable drop in performance. (and I'm sure rebuilding is still the most efficient route. I just haven't taken that step yet)

Good answer above and I would also add not to use vinegar. I found out the hard way when my ProTank's glue dissolved and it came apart. Hey, it is all a learning process. I think it also depends on what kind of juice you use. It seems to me that my coils last longer when I use a light colored juice instead of the darker ones like the Peanut Butter and tobaccos. There are some good video's on YouTube about dry burning which will definitely make your coils last longer because it cleans the gunk off of them. I try to do a hot water rinse and dry burn every couple of refills. My coils last over a month so I guess I am doing ok. Things like the Protank and evods are so easy to rebuild yourself that I have started tossing them sooner just because. heehee Good luck to you and welcome to ecf.
