My Ithaka ceramic was due for it's clean today so before I torched it I took a couple of pictures before and after so you see how effective torching is

Yeah, I'm sure he just used a torch. I use a cheap butane torch and it cleans them up good as new, or pretty close to it.
Thing to note is don't overdo torching and let it cool down on it's own. Over torching and dipping in water to cool will make it brittle.
But the most important thing to note is don't be tempted to touch it with your finger to check if it's still hot after torching.

Yep just torching, and keep the torch on it till you see it turning white. The ceramic then needs to cool down (and it takes a long time) then once it's cooled off for about 10-15min you can rinse it out with water
I have torches in my shop but for this, I got a really nice cigar lighter that you can weld with.
I put the ceramic on the bottom of an upside down coffee cup and hit it with the lighter. Wicked device.

I also use a 2-3 hours vodka bath in a small cup, but i'm a lazy guy and i wait my ceramics to come in worse condition than CaptSteve's first photo

I find that Vodka is much more effective with some ice and orange juice, it doesn't clean the ceramics that well but heck after a few you couldn't care less
Hey man! I'm doing great. Just changed jobs, last one was killing me. Our last daughter went off to college and quite frankly, don't need the money or the stress anymore so I stepped back and took a job with a smaller family held company.

I clean my ceramic all the time but today i noticed it was broken who knows when they will more at cov bye bye ithaka. Be very carefull after you have clean it and wait till it cools down before putting it back together and tighting it up and let it cool down on it own dont put it i cold water to speed it up thanks Adam
COV has them now I think-go to page 2 on Ithaka. That's where they were yesterday anyway.
Thats great Imeo thanks sends lots please so i can stock up maybe four this time just to be safe i plan on using the ithaka until a new invention comes and wife forgets how long i have had it
